Fascism and socialism both advocate strong state control. They are examples of statism. The individual exists to serve the state. Capitalism involves much less state control. Private enterprise and private freedom rule.
Put all three on a scale and see how they compare. While there are differences between socialism and fascism, they have much more in common than they do with capitalism. Fascism is not halfway between socialism and capitalism on the scale of individual freedom.
I've discovered some shifts in dictionary definitions that occurred over time (or perhaps the definitions depend on the political beliefs of the definer).
My 1956 Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary says fascism is "Any program for setting up a centralized autocratic national regime with severe nationalistic policies, exercising regimentation of industry, commerce, and finance, rigid censorship, and forcible suppression of opposition."
My 1976 American Heritage Dictionary says fascism is, "A philosophy or system of government that advocates or exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership, together with an ideology of beligerent nationalism."
By 1982, the second edition of the American Heritage Dictionary says the following about fascism, "A philosophy or system of government that is marked by stringent social and economic control, a strong centralized government usually headed by a dictator, and often a policy of beligerent nationalism."
I wonder which of the above definitions was written by a political liberal trying to blame the excesses of the left on the right. What person from the right side of the aisle would advocate a government that fit the definitions above? Communist party members on the other hand voted with Nazi party members time after time in the Reichstag of the 1930s.
HANG UP AND DRIVE!
And one I would like to see in a place like Berkeley:
PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!
Because Hitler and Stalin were two gangsters fighting for the same turf. All of the bloodiest fights are between the bad guys- in WWII we had the good fortune of having our two most powerful enemies shooting at each other more than they shot at us.
PACIFISM IN THE FACE OF ATTACK IS SUICIDE
BWAHAHA...
No, xm177e2, I am afraid you are still wrong.
The Nazis were/are 'National Socialists'.
Adolph Hitler headed the National Socialist German Workers Party .
Again, xm177e2, we can't change a word's meaning just because we feel it doesn't suit us.
On the other hand,"Fascism was a middle point between capitalism and socialism" is just plain stupid. You sound like some college sophomore feminist studies major.
Excellent!
Dude,...give it up. You are either ignorant or just really stupid....
Hugs,
Martin
