Overly optimistic? Perhaps. But I've already seen the world change dramatically once in my life. If the U.S.S.R. can collapse, apparently overnight, I have every confidence that he eminently sensible American people can slay Leviathan.

Actually, I don't need cheering up and I'm not overly pessimistic anymore than you might be overy optimistic.

The problem is I'm 52 yrs old and have seen a steady erosion in my rights and the quality of life in the country in my lifetime. With no end in sight. There doesn't seem to be any dramatic change in this country coming, overnight or otherwise. My children are grown up now and the country they have inherited is much, much worse than the one I had at their age. Their opportunities are much poorer than mine. The barriers to their happiness and economic growth are much higher than mine were.

I might liken your comments to someone making a philosophical case to a slave who was my age in 1850 that is was going to get better in time. The person making the case was right, but the slave never had the chance to enjoy the fruits of freedom in his lifetime. How long will it take for this country to bottom out like Russia did or like Europe (maybe) is? When will it get back to where it was for me, or more importantly, where it was for my parents?

I'm glad if you are patient and happy because of the book you read, but it doesn't change the reality for me and mine.

"Don't worry, be happy"...Bobby McFarrin

We both want the same things, our outlooks are different. we need change now, not later. I would be of a different mindset if we were at least going in the right direction. We are not.

People on this board are cheerleading for gujys like Bush and the Republicans merely because they are not Clinton and the Democrats. We are going the wrong way, not the right way. And keep in mind, if you take even baby steps toward any objective, sooner or later you will get there. That's my perspective.

Regards, TJ

there was one we saw spray painted on a rock wall out by our local Ghost Town (Calico) in So. California.

Is that anywhere near Garlock??

"The wise choice for senate... [ ]Boxer [X] Any other life form"
