Dooley was a remarkable person...I recall seeing him on TV a number of times during his visits back to the US from southeast asia...he was actually attempting to build support for his medical mission in Vietnam and Laos, but he also talked of many of the atrocities he had seen committed against the people by the various communist regimes in the region...he more than any other single person may have been responsible for alerting the country to what was going on in Vietnam and shaping opinions about it...those who find it so easy to dismiss our involvement there as misguided or immoral should be required to read some of Dooley's books - I don't think any civilized nation could have walked away from the savagery he described...
