Budget woes lead Alabama to begin halting jury trials

ONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Constitution guarantees the right to trial by jury, but that isn't stopping Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore from halting jury trials beginning tomorrow to save money.

Moore, known for his fights to post the Ten Commandments in public buildings, is now sparring with the governor and Legislature over funding for the courts.

We can't afford jury trials but yet we can pump billions of dollars into the welfare system to feed, clothe, educate, and medicate illegal aliens. Do you see something wrong with the system?

I spend a lot of time checking out papers all over the country. From what I have seen, almost every state is in tremendous financial trouble. We're going to see massive tax increases after the November elections. For some reason this has been ignored around here. Watch your wallet.

It's not just the welfare state, it is anything and everything. But the welfare system is the first item on the agenda that should be axed.

People are to busy staying home watching The Simpsons and King Of The Hill to be bothered with a little thing like taxes. SHeeple!!

One of the poorest states in the union has the highest paid judges...and they act like a class unto-themselves.

The state just sent me a notice indicating that I owe them $3,000.00 for 1996 and want to look at all the subsequent years too. (wonderful)
Maybe I'll just move back to Texas. (no state income taxes)

It is already starting in California. A proposed Two cents per mile on each vehicle, fifty cents a gallon tax on fuel, and $3,500 "fee" on SUV's.

Increase in water fees, sewage fees locally.

$368,000,000 million tax on sugar drinks-heard this one is temporarily tabled.They were going to set up clinics-more freebee's for mexicans.

IIRC, some school districts in Alabama recently dropped football from their athletics programs. That would be like Indiana schools dropping basketball, Texas schools dropping football, or North Carolina out-lawing NASCAR. That's what will communicate to most Joe-Six-Packs that Alabama is REALLY in deep financial trouble!

This is a tactic that the bureaucrats in government always use when they want to get a tax hike. In Massachusetts, they usually cut the police or fire departments. Of course, the millions of people collecting welfare checks and food stamps are never affected. Instead, those out-of-work layabouts are usually bused to the State House to protest all these cuts in "vital" government services.
