I personally think the Economist is a fantastic publication. They tell both sides (even if they then choose one or the other) and they never "dumb down" the science articles.

With that said however, they have a lot of nerve making it seem like gerrymandering is a US invention. Protestant groups in Northern Ireland have been doin it there since catholics regained the right to vote wit the repeal of the penal laws in the 1870's. In the areas of Donegal and Derry where catholic majorities existed, the voting districs would be mutated into bizarre spiders with each leg to include every hamlet in the area that had a few more protestant votes.

We may be guilty, but I resent the impleication that we alone have done so.

But the original Gerrymander occurred in 1811.
