As I was using up some of our last dozen canned vegetables, I remembered all the threads prior to Y2K.
People were stockpiling all kinds of stuff. I remember someone posting that they had 500 rolls of toilet paper in an outdoor shed.
So I thought it might be fun to see who still has any Y2K leftovers and maybe share creative ways we are using them up.
Speaking for our house, the canned vegetables have come in handy as we like stews and homemade soups. About a dozen cans is all we have left.
Did you have leftovers you can't possibly use and want to swap? What was the most useless thing you bought and put away?

I've kept both my old KayPro computers just in case this IBM/Windows thing doesn't pan out.

Does ammo count? Hahaha.

You know this is going to be one of the funniest threads. I have some stinky cheese leftover.
To: Atticus
I bet there is lots of ammo out there, probably the number #1 leftover. Who knows we may have a chance to use it up soon.
I forgot a leftover we have, a manual pump for our well. We never installed it but felt better having it, still in the box. Price tag somewheres over 600.00. ouch!

Stinky cheese only gets better with age.

LOL okay - wanna piece? ;-)

Heh heh.....I called a friend of mine at about 9am on Jan 1st, 2000. He was a "the world is coming to an end" Y2Ker. I asked him what he was going to do with all that creamed corn. He didn't speak to me for a month.

Just yesterday, I loaded the van with our surplus canned goods and drove to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
(The van came in handy, as there were a lot of cans.)
Still have 100+ gallons of bottled water and lots and lots of ammo :-). Will keep a small portable water still which I have never used.

I am sorry, but I am unwilling to share. We dodged the bullet with Y2K and didn't need to use the emergency plans/supplies we had put in place. We won't be so lucky the next time. I'm sure Gore and the democraps will critcize Bush, and rightfully so, for his failure to even adress the crisis looming in front of us, Y3K! Sure, it is a while off but none of the computers are ready. No, I'm keeping my water, toilet paper and ammo, the reality of the Y3K worldwide disaster is now less than 400,000 days away. You've been warned.

Still have all of it.
Periodically check for 'use by' dates.
Of course this is earthquake country, so we need to be prepared at all times.

I bought some food but I ate it all before Y2K got here.
To: Tacis
I'm with you. Sure, I use the canned stuff, but I make sure to replace it when I use it. I now have EVEN MORE stored food than I did then. In fact, after a couple of days of total shock after 9/11, the first thing I did was stock up on MORE supplies and gas for the generators.
It's my belief that what is happening RIGHT NOW is Y2K, or at least the beginning of it. The ridiculous thing I DIDN'T buy back then was one of the many large generators people were selling. Wish I had. My two are kind of small.

his failure to even adress the crisis looming in front of us, Y3K! I think you're being an alarmist!
Most people who fixed y2K bugs fixed 'em so that Y3k won't be a problem.
However, Y10K is another matter entirely...

Candles are all that are left from Y2K. The 911 stash is pretty good, even though I'm eating my way through the expiration dates. I need to beging replinishing the stock soon.
BTW, I want to thank all the advocates of BLOAT. I've taken that advise and now I'm ready to rock. There is a certain peace of mind that comes from preparing.
To: Rebelbase
beging=begin.......where did that come from?
To: MomwithHope
My wife and I have finally worked our way through our stock of white gas, works great for lighting the grill!
