Why Are They Committing Suicide?

By Moshe Feiglin

When I walked between the pools of blood in the Karnei Shomron shopping mall a few weeks ago I couldn't understand why the terrorist committed suicide. After all, there were no armed guards there, and he could have simply left a bag full of explosives, and returned home safely. This has happened in all kinds of other incidents. These scums are attacking old people, women, and children, but are not attempting to penetrate the commandbunker of the State of Israel, where perhaps they would need real courage, where it would be a real suicide mission. Instead they are perpetrating their terrorist acts in places like Karnei Shomron.

It's very confusing: We feel that this is not an act of bravery but the exact opposite. However, from a technical aspect, until recently, such an act was considered to be performed by a few unique individuals. Whole groups of people are now prepared tocarry out suicide attacks against us. Why is this happening?

I think that we, the Jews, have created the suicide bombers. In other words, we are responsible for them. This may sound strange, but in order to explain this we have to ask another question. About ten years ago the Arab tribes in Eretz Israel were much further away from achieving their goals. No one talked to them, no one dreamed of sitting down with their Tunisian leaders, and here in Israel they were, at most, heads of municipal authorities as part of the civil administration. At that time about 150,000 Arab workers entered through the Erez checkpoint every morning and returned every evening. How did the IDF manage back then to defend the border and maintain the security of Israeli citizens?

The answer is very simple: by means of a piece of rope!

At the Erez checkpoint a bored reserve soldier stood with a rifle slung over his shoulder (and sometimes even without it) and held the end of a piece of rope that was attached to a post on the other side of the road. He lowered and raised the rope as he wished – and this method worked. Now there are Merkava tanks on the border, and Apache helicopters circling overhead – and this method doesn't work.

So what has actually happened here? According to our Western logic, when they had received nothing of what they were subsequently given, they should have fought us, and the more they were given, the more peaceful they should have become, and the level of violence should have been reduced. But in practice the opposite occurred.

When they had nothing, their hatred took the form of minor incidents of violence here and there, with very rare cases of something more serious. No suicide bombers wandered around in our cities, nothing happened on the scale to which we have recently become accustomed. The more we gave them, the more the violence increased. When did this violence reach its peak? When we conceded the Temple Mount. The war then became one of gunfire, explosions, and suicide bombers.

The point is, that by making these concessions, we demonstrated to the people on the other side that they were in the right. When we waived our right to the Temple Mount, we showed them that they were completely in the right, and we were left without a
G-d.

The reserve soldier with the piece of rope was not armed with battalions of Merkava tanks and squadrons of Apache helicopters – but he was in the right. At least that was how the other side saw it. The war between the Jews and the Arabs in this country is not just a war for Lebensraum, but for something far deeper. The longer the Intifada continued it become clearer to the Arabs that the Jews were not in the right. The more they received, the more they understood that this Israeli ethos facing them was only an empty balloon. As the Arab murderer, Dahlan, said: "We realized that you were just an ordinary country".

Our region abhors a vacuum. If one side gives up its feeling of being in the right, the other side acquires this feeling. In a normal dispute it is possible for both sides to be partially in the right, but in our case only one side can be in the right, and that has become the other side. Now all these primitive tribes, whose cultural mores were always based on robbery, and certainly not on justice, feel that they are totally in the right. Now they are righteous people, saints – Shahids.

It's as if a small child has been given the keys to a truck. This is a case of cultural defilement that has suddenly been given a tremendously powerful tool – justice and morality. After all, the Jews admit that the Arabs are in right, they are willing to give them a state in Eretz Israel, they are ready to give them Jerusalem, they are ready to give them their holiest place – the Jews are thus admitting that the Arabs are totally in the right. And what are these poor Arabs capable of doing with this morality? Are they capable of introducing justice and holiness into their daily life? Is a culture, that murders girls of the family if they were raped, capable of accepting these keys? A complete distortion of the concepts of good and evil has been created, a bull that has been pushed forcibly into a china shop. After all, they are incapable of interpreting the moral codes given to them by the Jews in the form of life in this world – they can only die. We have turned all of them into suicide bombers. This is their and our mental illness.

It is therefore clear that there is no point in executing that which the Right demands. There is no point in again conquering the areas of Judea and Samaria. There is no point in sending in IDF forces and risking the lives of our soldiers in the narrow alleys of the towns. As we have already seen, it is possible to conquer Ramallah fifty times, but if we do not feel in the right this is of no use.

It is not Ramallah that we need to conquer, but justice. After all, it belongs to us, and we threw it away scornfully at the feet of the Arabs.

The moment we re-conquer justice, it will be possible to return the Merkava tanks to the emergency storage units, because there will be no more suicide bombers, and a reserve soldier can guard the border by holding a piece of rope.

How do we conquer justice? We have to return to the place where we lost it – to the Temple Mount.

At the risk of sounding insensitive, I don't think I'll miss them, and I truly doubt any of them would have solved world peace or invented anything of value.

What an intellectual article! It makes so much sense. When one earns something, it means so much more. Having been handed something unearned ruins character. I guess the bleeding-heart leftist libs are responsible for this.

Though you replied to me, I'm guessing that it was the words of PayrollOffice that you didn't miss. Likely so (that, or I need my daily dose of wine to better appreciate this thread ...).

You're welcome. Thought the followups are rather more strange than usual tonight. Something's in the air.

There's an aspect to the Pallie terrorist attacks that has to do with the way vile people think. The PA filth have an "I would, if I could - you aren't, so YOU CAN'T!" Prior to the current eminently justified actions of Israeli, The PA filth didn't believe Israel could do what it is now doing. The Pallie terrs are having a "sudden cessation of ignorance."
