From the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

The strong growth in Norway must be viewed, among other factors, in connection with the development of the oil industry after the initial finds of oil on the Norwegian shelf at the end of the 1960s. From 1980 to 2000, oil production has increased by over 300 per cent and Norway is now the world's second biggest exporter of oil.

Approximately 77 per cent of Norwegian exports go to EU countries, while a good 68 per cent of imports come from these countries. Exports to the USA are on the same level as those to Asia, but imports from Asia are significantly higher than those from the USA. The Nordic countries, Great Britain and Germany are Norway's most important trading partners. Great Britain and Germany are major markets for Norwegian oil and gas. Sweden is the country that Norway imports most from. Exports of goods and services accounted for 46 percent of the GDP in 2000, while imports accounted 31 per cent. Exports of oil and gas constituted 46 per cent of total exports.

Canada buys Norwegian oil, but I'm not sure if the U.S. does.

It is unfair to condemn all of the Norwegians for something that one set of people said.

Doesn't matter. The "Israel Uber Alles" crowd is bound and determined to smear every country on the face of the earth which has one person there who doesn't follow their partei line. They've gone after everyone from the Pope to the President of the United States to Billy Graham to Putin and Schroeder. No person, no country is safe.

What's disturbing is that this happened at their Parliament, not at a business or other private sphere. It has the impriture of official policy to it, therefore reflecting on Norway as a whole, not just on a few loons.

Unlike the the Norwegians, wearing a Star of David used to be a point of honor among the the Danes. After the Nazis invaded in 1940, they ordered that all Jews were a Yellow Star of David so that they could be rounded up. The next day, the Royal family wore clothes with little yellow stars of David and asked that all patriotec Danes do the same. The Danes then smuggled over 90% of Danish Jews into Sweden. Of all the countries the Nazis occupied, the fewest Jews, bioth proportional and absolute, died in Denmark.
Even today, Denmark is the friendliest to Jews. It is the only country where one can by Kosher meat products. (My mother's parents live in Malmo, a Swedish city across from Copenhagen. They get all of their kosher products from there.)
Also, I am thrilled with the Danes saying no to the Euro.

2. I am horribly disapointed with the Norwegians. After the elections in which the conservative parties regained control of parliament on a platform against (mostly Muslim0 immigratns, I had such high hopes. I had planned to visit Olso and Bergen this summer after visiting relatives in Sweden. My mother and sister did this two years ago and had a great time. Now I wont even eat Nowegian lox.

3. As for the member of the Nobel committee having essentially joined as civilian adjunct to the SS, I am not suprised.

The Danes and the Norwegians are so closely related (Norway was up until less than 200 years ago governed by Denmark, and the Norwegian language is as close to Danish as say, Serbian is to Croatian--closer in fact and with far fewer intermural hard feelings!), and yet so different in their behavior during WW II. To be fair, the Norwegians did have a resistance movement against Nazi occupation, but they were more notorious during the war for their homegrown Nazi collaborator Vidkun Quisling, whose name to this day is synonymous with "traitor."

Not true. See Snopes. Denmark did see that not many jews were killed, but the king never wore the star.
