Separate forums will make more sense as the membership base grows and FReepers will be utilizing FR to discuss and form groups on everything under the sun.

They make sense to you. But I pay about as much attention as anyone, and I must have missed the groundswell clammoring for separtion. Sure there's a lot of stuff I skipped, but it was easy with the old setup.

I would ask you where I should look for a thread about Islasm. Is it under News/Activism or under Religion?

You act like people were posting about topics like "Danny and the Juniors." It just wasn't so.

I would ask you where I should look for a thread about Islasm.

If it was to discuss the details of the religion and worship, then in Religion. If it is to discuss it's impact on the world, or another political aspect of it, N/A

"John should write a special routine for the word yatch."

LOL!!! I'll never live down spelling it wrong when I registered on FR.

"What if I don't know the exact screenname?"

The only option would be to copy a persons screen name then paste it in the search box.

Things are a changing. The poll question is now on the left sidebar and many more posts on breaking news are on the right side bar. John's listening!!

Blue border and flag being gone is a big improvement. No more waves while scrolling and large text on browser once again usable.

Thanks. I eventually found that one. See my post-to-self #42.

I see the sidebars are back!

I like the new look. Usability needs tweaking though, which is expected considering the daunting task of balancing organization and simplicity in such a huge forum.

A few specific things I would do ASAP:

1. Link Free Republic to the home page (http://www.freerepublic.com/) on every page.

2. Create a site map/clarify "topics" vs "forums".
I think there's a bit of confusion with the topics page linked on the upper right and what I assume are considered "forums" on the left. (Campaign 2002, General Interest, News/Activism, Religion, VetsCoR)

It appears that the topics are not "subtopics" of individual "Forums", but an alternate categorization method of all posts, site-wide...?

If so, I'd put a link to "Topics" with the link to "forums" on the left. And to make it more intuitive, I'd say "List by Forum" or "List by Topic".

3. On the posting form, you allow people who are starting a new thread to type in topics or select them from a list. I'd at least say there that "the topic must be already established"... I'd probably force they use the selection method to avoid problems of typos.

(I've read most but not all the posts on these threads, so if this has all been said before, I apologize...)

Would there be some way while veiwing latest posts, threads and replies, to have a flexible number displayed? It would be great if all the new replies and threads since the last time you hit refresh could be displayed. Then it would be easy to keep up and know what is new.

The color code makes it quite easy for most. You have one color for unclicked and another color for replies you have clicked.

On the mailbox page we have this warning: "Fair Warning. The interface and URLs for Freepmail WILL CHANGE in the near future"

I, along with many others, have old freepmails still stored in our freepmail boxes. Does this mean we will lose those old freepmails?

Do you use the view latest threads and messages function? When I view things in that forum I use to go back to the last reply or message that I had seen and then I knew that I had scanned all of the knew replies. The forum displayed a unique number corresponding to each post. I could scan back to the number of the last post displayed before I hit refresh and know that I had covered everything new. Now I have a very limited number of posts displayed and no easy way to tell where I left off.

Any chance of making the titles a little bigger on the pages with threads and posts? These old eyes are getting older...just a little bigger would work well. You are using a san serif font, which is a bit harder to read at smaller font sizes.

Under view all threads and messages, you can look at the bottom of each post and it has a # of #.

Unless there is one very popular thread that won't get you very close to where you left off because you don't know whether to move up or farther down the list to find it.

Hi! The new format looks great! I'd like to know how I can get rid of my threads or whatever is in my mail? Thanks :-)

Sorry Texaggie79, what I meant was, how to delete the threads on "My Forum", not in "My Mail". Thanks again.
