Since the conception of the US government, the Native Americans have been getting the proverbial shaft. As if being called savages and murdered weren't bad enough, they were forcibly removed from their land which they had lived on for generations, and given the crappiest land the government could find. The second the government even thinks it's profitable, they try to either take it back, or get in on the action in one way or another.
If you're referring to the casinos as one of the "numerous grants and benefits" that the Native Americans are getting from the US government, think again. The Native Americans are finally finding a way to use their otherwise almost useless land, and let me tell you, the government is chomping at the bit to get a piece of the pie. At least, here in California they are.
The next time you think that the Native Americans are sitting pretty because of what the US government has done for them, visit a Navajo Indian Reservation. A lot of families there are so poor they don't even have a working toilet. They have to use an outhouse. That's what the US government has done, and is continuing to do, for the Native Americans.
I'm sorry if I come off sounding a bit harsh. I don't mean to. I'm part Cherokee and what the government has done to the Native Americans really bothers me. If you ever get a chance, visit a reservation. I'm sure the people there would be happy to sit down with you and talk about what they've gone through, and continue to go through, at the hands of the US government.
