Mr Simmons,
This is to advise you about a push poll that was directed to me last night about 9pm in East Hampton. After establishing I was a likely voter, the oldest male and was a republican I was asked who I would vote for. After telling them the republican candidate most likely (because I don't know you because of redistricting) I was asked a series of questions which included (not exact wording) :
1. Simmons voted for 450 million in retro active tax benefits for Enron.
2. Simmons voted against school building.
3. Simmons voted against allowing us to sure HMO's and taking away benefits from elderly.
He then asked me would I still vote for Simmons. I told him his questions were based on flawed premises and that this was a push poll. I was surprised that he didn't tell me Simmons was an ax murderer but yes I will still vote for the ax murderer.
The contact person I was given for this poll is Amy Collier, 215-641-2200 ext 2247. I left her a message telling her the polling company was lower scum than Clinton.
I am angry about this call and am willing to offer whatever assistance I can to you in the upcoming election in East Hampton, please let me know what I can do to help.
Ray
Dear Ray,
The nasty politics in CT has just begun by Courtney. Please see below my e-mail to Rob Simmons regarding a push poll I received. I received a call back from Rob Simmons and his campaign managr to confirm that this was not poll they ordered and that it was in fact a push poll. Mr. Simmons clarified the issues raised with me. I would appreciate it if you could make this a topic of one of your shows this week.
It is amazing that the Democrats just finished "cleaning up" the elections and two days later start push polls.
Thanks Ray.
Except when the GOP loses an election, at which time libertarians are an astonishingly powerful force that solely changed the outcome.
I'm curious: What's the specific difference between a liberal and an alleged Republican who voted to restrict free speech?
Please be specific.
Even Kevin's thread calling libertarians satanists and witches? That was a classic.
Then you know quite well that I am not pro drug.
You also know that I disagree with how the war is being fought, starting with the fact that the federal government should not be nearly as involved in the WOD as it is.
You probably know from those threads that I am a Boy Scout leader, a reading mentor and a volunteer at my son's school, in addition to volunteering my time and being a role model in other areas in my community. This puts me in a realsitic position to keep kids away from drugs. I may keep only a small number of kids off drugs, but I know I am doing my part, way more so than the a-holes who think this can be solved by federal laws and TV commercials.
If others were to join me and do the same types of things and get involved not only thier own kids and thier nieghbor's kids, as well as thier community, there would not be the probelms with the social ills that plague our communities.
Nope, I am a Libertarian because I practice and teach personal responsiblity, and I recognize that when we try to legislate all our troubles away, we just tend to make things worse, as well as making people more comfortable with treating Uncle Sam as a surrogate parent.
Libertarians are strangely schizophrenic:
One minute they are the cause of Republican losses, the next they are irrelevant. One minute they are leftists and communists, the next they are free market Darwinists. They are Passifists who defend the Second Amendment and druggies who frequently condemn drug abuse. They are church-going Christian atheists who believe that Jesus might ahve been the ultimate libertarin.
This is from guys who prefer the drug prohibition status quo that prevents addicts from getting treatment, that preserves government and law enforcement corruption, that advocates policies that ensure obscene profits and violence in illegal drug trafficing.
These are the same who insist that voting for the lesser of evils is somehow not voting for evil.
These are the ones that rely on falsehoods, inneundo, and smears to deal with political/philisophical opponents.
Yep, libertarians who believe in the maximum amount of freedom for the maximum amount of the people are the wierd ones.
Is this what a Liberatarian is?
I practice and teach personal responsiblity, and I recognize that when we try to legislate all our troubles away, we just tend to make things worse, as well as making people more comfortable with treating Uncle Sam as a surrogate parent.
Hey, maybe I am a Liberatarian. I am a big supporter of the Heritage Foundation, but for some reason I always feel compelled to write a check to the Cato Institute as well.
Are you prepared to be called a drug pushing, pedophile sodomite with bestial tendencies, belonging to the church of Satan?
Of course those comments come from those who intentionally misrepresent anything L/libertarian and who seem to believe that they or the government can and should control the individual. Modern day Pharisees.
Not to fear, tho, the statists will denigrate me for being a responsible member of society.
We know that VA is searching her little heart out to take something out of context and make asinine comments about.
Oh my goodness, you "real""pure" types are so funny. I remember hearing this exact same argument when Bush the elder was running for re-election. He lied, it can't get any worst than it is now. We'll vote third party, we'll sit out. That will teach'um. That will make them pay attention to us. What happened it got a lot worst. We got clinton, and the entire nation suffered from his disgrace. And the nation is still suffering.
Regardless of your passion about Bush's betrayal. It could get a lot worst. Remember Gore is considered a moderate by democratic standards. That's why nader ran against him. Clinton wanted to shut down talk radio. He talked about reinstating the "fairness doctrine". Which would have destroyed the conservative talk shows. I could see the democrats reenstating the fairness doctrine to shut down talk radio. And expanding hate crimes to shut down freerepublic. After all your honor, someone there posted a Bible verse saying Gay sex was wrong. Therefore they are resonsible for every bad thing that happens to gays. Don't laugh, the morning news/talk shows blamed Lott for Mathew Shepherd's death, because Lott said homosexuality was an illness.
Try living in an America where the gov't considers conservative ideas a crime. And don't get me started on how the rats attack private property rights. It can get a lot worst then this one betrayal.
Sure. It's always easier to ridicule someone than to refute them factually. I know what I am, and I have no problem standing up for my own beliefs. There's no doubt in my mind that the principles you call Libertarian (I feel the need to capitalize Liberty) are the reason for my success in business and in life.
There are always people like AV and the rest of the naysayers who will tell you that what you believe is wrong because it's different or unorthodox, or find a way to ridicule your intentions, but we all know what we are deep down inside. I sent AV a private email telling her that I would bet $2000 that Lazio would run this year. I said my lawyer would hold the money and pay the winner. No response.
In my opinion there is nothing worse than choking my freedom of speech and freedom of association.
That's right because Northeastern Liberals want nothing more than to privatize Social Security, cut the tax rates, appoint conservative judges, rebuild our national defense, develop a missle defense, slow the rate of gov't growth to 4%, enact school vouchers, etc.
BTW, I capitalize Liberarian, because I am a Libertarian party member (actually I am the local affiliate chairman)
Those who are not party members tend to not capitalize.
how did your gun grabbing hero Senator Peter Fitzgerald vote on CFR?
privatize Social Security - This is going to end up a teeny tiny percentage of the money they piss away. Probably not enough to buy a cup of coffee for a younger person, and we're going to have to give a gallon of blood to get it.
cut the tax rates - The tax cuts are and were a joke.
appoint conservative judges - Bush's next appointment is a clinton appointee that didn't get confirmed.
rebuild our national defense - Unfortunately 9/11 will make this possible.
develop a missle defense - Probably the only constitutional thing on the list
slow the rate of gov't growth to 4% - You don't actually believe this has been done, do you?
enact school vouchers - This was gutted from the famous education bill.
