USO Canteen Freeper Style

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

Eventually I'll get a ride on one of these so I can see the entire area we cover.

HH-65A Helicopter
The United States Coast Guard has added 96 short range HH-65A helicopters to its fleet to replace the HH-52A Sikorsky Sea Guard. The twin-engine Dolphins operate up to 150 miles off shore and will fly comfortably at 120 knots for up to three hours.
Though normally stationed ashore, the Dolphins can be carried on board medium and high endurance Coast Guard Cutters. They assist in the missions of search and rescue, enforcement of laws and treaties, including drug interdiction, polar ice breaking, marine environmental protection including pollution control, and military readiness. Helicopters stationed aboard icebreakers are the ship's eyes to find thinner and more navigable ice channels. They also airlift supplies to ships and to villages isolated by winter.
The HH-65A minimum equipment requirements exceed anything previously packaged into one helicopter weighing in at less than 10,000 pounds. HH-65As are made of corrosion-resistant, composite-structure materials. The shrouded tail rotor is unique to the Dolphin. Also a unique feature of the Dolphin is its computerized flight management system which integrates state-of-the-art communications and navigation equipment. This system provides automatic flight control. At the pilot's direction, the system will bring the aircraft to a stable hover 50 feet above a selected object. This is an important safety feature in darkness or inclement weather. Selected search patterns can be flown automatically, freeing the pilot and copilot to concentrate on sighting the search object.
The Dolphin is manufactured by Aerospatiale Helicopter Corporation in Grand Prairie, Texas. Textron Lycoming builds the LTS-101 750B-2 turboshaft engines in Williamport, Pennsylvania and Rockwell International, Collins Avionics Group manufactures the electronics system in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

I'm feeling some better 4, thank you. Yeah, the first thing Jack did was make a ham sandwich and some chicken noodle soup. I hope he's sleeping now, although he complained that he never slept at night in the hospital.

As for the weather, it's dry right now, but we have had some rain in the last few days. We're not too dry and our wet months are yet to come (April/May). As you know, WV can have come awful floods. I always dread the wet season. Of course we live behind the flood wall. One time it flooded all around us and we were marooned in Pt Pleasant high and dry. We couldn't get out of town because all the roads were under water, but they put in the flood gates and we stayed dry. Point sits on the point where the Kanawha and Ohio Rivers meet, so it has to have a flood wall. The town almost washed away in 36.

I have it ready, daisy. I didn't know you would be up this late. I have a deal going with the wholesale bakery supply warehouse over on Goody Street (gr). They have agreed to accept the money from our cyber money tree here in the back. They will have it all ready for some strong young man and will load it all in the Expedition for him. He might need help here unloading and storing it all, however.

"Good luck Bro, and God be with you"

Thanks Brother.
And I used to think the Destroyer I was on (300 ft. lenght) was small. LOL
I'll be more than content to stand my watches on the base in the Radio Room once I'm fully qualified..
I just need the boat training to get the complete picture of the whole operation.
BTW: I read this before, but was reminded last week, in a National Emergency
the Coast Guard CAN place me on active duty if need be.

"You're going to superglue that lifejacket on right?"

As a matter of fact, ALL Coast Guard personnell are required
to wear a life jacket at all times when underway on the boats.
Like I said, they all like me, they'll keep an extra eye on this old tin can sailor. LOL

That is interesting, I wondered if something really bad happened if they would make active everyone. Thank you for telling me.

It is so neat how we get to be a tiny part of what you are doing as you share about it with us. I love it so much.

Here is the list you requested. The folks at the wholesale bakery supply store on Goody St. will have everything ready and will load it in the Expedition for some strong young Canteener.

I will have enough here to start with, so no real hurry.

200#........bread flour
60#..........white sugar
4#............instant dry yeast
8 oz.........pure vanilla (not extract)
4 oz.........ascorbic acid
20#.........powdered white sugar
20#.........granulated brown sugar
5#...........instant dry milk
l#............Vietnamese cinnamon, ground
1 qt.........molasses
8 oz.........sesame seeds, toasted
10#.........kosher salt, medium grind
1 btl.......green food colouring

I am pretty sure I have enough of the other things on hand to do the job. I can call them and have them add to it if I find I am short of something.

Thanks for handling this part, daisy, you have plenty to do anyway.

Tonk, that photo (with word border) of Liberty, the flag, eagle, etc., is absolutely stunning. It's not just the incredible photo clarity, it's the whole thing altogether. Thanks for posting it. Looks like a decal. If it's not, it should be!
