If they are here, already, then they should applaud this bill as well. The Object of lowering the threshold of scrutiny on this particular brand of illegals is to Clear out the INS backlog created by the previous administration.
Simply put, in deference to your gender, Which would you rather have the INS doing, (Choose one only)
A.Expanding to chase down those that are already here, and closely screen those coming in.
B. Staying the same size, and screwing around with people that may be illegal but have demonstrable ties to the community (Families/Jobs) and not being as effective screening those coming in.
C. Clearing the previous administrations backlog, and concentrating on those coming in; going forward.
How would you address the tax dollars spent to educate/medicate/jobs, let alone quality of life issues, to those of us who are not immigrants but taxpayers, workers and owners of real estate?
According to the Current Population Survey (CPS) conducted in March 2000 by the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 28.4 million immigrants living in the United States. This is the largest number of immigrants ever recorded in the nations history. It represents an increase of 43 percent just since 1990. Immigrants now account for 10.4 percent of all residents the highest percentage in 70 years. Of greater concern, is the documented estimate that more than 1.2 million legal and illegal immigrants combined now settle in the United States each year.
Wrong.
Since INS has no idea who these people are, and has no paperwork on them, there is no backlog.
There will be a backlog soon, as 200,000+ illegals file new applications.
This was passed as a gift to Mr. Fox, and nothing else.
You couldn't possibly be more wrong.
It is well known on Capitol Hill that the INS backlog is out of control, and that the agency is broken. Members of Congress routinely say that they get more complaints about the INS than any other subject ... by a wide margin.
There is nothing whatsoever in this bill that addresses the existing INS backlog. While you are correct in saying that this was caused by the previous administration, you've neglected to say that it was previous amnesties that have caused the INS to go into self destruction.
All this bill will do is to increase the number of cases INS must handle, which will result in an even more dysfunctional system, if that's imaginable.
There is no doubt at all that legal immigrants currently in the INS system are going to be screwed royally. There will be no applause.
