A student group bows out of a Red Cross show rather than drop 'god' and 'prayer' from their songs.
SANTA ANA -- A student group will not sing at a Red Cross event Sunday because the troupe's director says the charity barred the use of the words "god" and "prayer."

"To project your values as an entertainer is unprofessional..."OOPS! Someone get this guy in touch with Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand, Jane Fonda, Rob Reiner, Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson, Rosie O'Donnell, Cher and Madonna--not to mention the remaining 99% of Hollywood.
They need to be alerted that it is not acceptable "to project your values as an entertainer."

P.S. Why would the Red Cross and Ralph Opacic arrange for the heroes' trilogy to be sung, and then demand it be butchered? They knew what the songs were about. It's as if they went out of their way, to make an anti-American statement.

"The dispute centers only on our sensitivity to religious diversity and ..... inclusive and not offend different populations .....
The "religious diversity" of the American population now excludes Christians and Jews and prayers?
"We wanted songs representative of all races, all creeds," said Rebecca Long, spokesman for the Orange County chapter. "We are not a religious organization. We have to be neutral and impartial in all situations."
Just no God! And no prayers! OK!??
........ taking God and prayer out of the medley would negate its meaning.
And God knows the Red CROSS wouldn't want to be confused with any man's God! Now would it!!

Thanks for the link. Following is the e-mail I sent to that address.
"I found the following note on Free Republic.com, in one of the threads about your unfortunate decision:
'The money I was about to give the Red Cross had the words "In God We Trust" on it. So, in order to save them the trouble of having to send it back, I'm going to give it to the Salvation Army instead.'
I agree with the writer of that note.
The Red Cross should be more concered with those likely to help them with their projects, than with potentially offending someone who is only looking for excuses to pretend offense, and who would not otherwise be interested in the mission of the Red Cross."

The Red Crescent was, for many years run by Arafat's brother.

Bacon decided to cancel the performance rather than change the lyrics. Libby Dole started this. She is a wolf in sheep's liberal clothing. Bacon, on the other hand, is a person of courage. Merci for posting this.

Yes, another reason not to give to the Red Cross. I don't give to the Red Cross and the United Way, and I don't buy Girl Scout cookies anymore. When the little girl came to my door and asked me if I wanted to buy some GS cookies, I said, "No." She did not even look stunned, but simply turned around and walked away. I felt a little sorry for her, but I got the distinct impression that I was not the first negative response she had received.

Why not encourage those who attend the event to sing the song "spontaneously". Provide the words to all who enter and suggest a time to sing it, possibly right after the anthem.
Such a display would be far more powerful than anything else.

Orange County is not representatiive of CA, just like Berkeley and SF. They drink too much bathwater.

"We have to be neutral and impartial in all situations." Good. How soon will you launch the two-year change to the American Red Swastika?

"We wanted songs representative of all races, all creeds," said Rebecca Long, spokeswoman for the Orange County chapter. "We are not a religious organization. We have to be neutral and impartial in all situations."How's that for a contradictory statement? She's saying that the children's race and creed might be offensive to her volunteers. What a twisted person she is!

Are any freepers going to this tomorrow?
If so, give a full report (maybe go video-tape it even). I would like to know what happened so I can judge what to do at the blood drive this week at school (which I assume is ran by the Red Cross). I may print up signs urging people not to donate if they ask.
