How we as Christians often hurt our own cause
me and Dateline ^ | 3/08/02 | me

Tonight on Dateline am old case from Gilmer, Texas was covered. It had to do with a missing teenage girl, allegations of child abuse, and Satanic Ritual Abuse.

What started out as a routine investigation by the local CPS mushroomed into a full blown witch hunt by some very well meaning people. A special prosecutor, two social workers, and two alleged satanic experts were left to investigate the case. They began to refer to themselves as "The Team". The Team believed they were on a mission from God to root out satanism in the small town. They determined that local adults had participated in a Satanic cult which included cannibalism in their activites. As the case wore on, no one was safe. The sheriff was eventually indicted as well because he produced evidence to the contrary of The Team's evidence.

There was no forensic evidence to back up any of their allegations. Nothing. A bone was found, which The Team announced as being human before having it examined by a forenisc anthropolgist. It turned out to be a pig bone.

Their case and all its lies and twists finally unraveled when the State's Attorney was called in. He disbanded the Team and dismissed all of the charges against the accused. It was discovered that the children of the alleged satanists had been physically and emotionally bullied by social workers and the satanist experts into "confessing" the crimes of the group.

In my opiniokn the Team was drunk with it's own power. And in ignoring traditonal investigative methods (forensics) they ruined the lives of many people and discredited Christians everywhere who know that Satan's hand can be felt. They made good, honest, Bible believing people look like loons, and ruined the life of a good man (the sheriff).

As Christian, we need to be aware that Satan's hand is involved in the world. But, we also must be careful not to fall into his trap ourselves as this team of experts did. Their pride and power trip blinded them from the truth.

So far you haven't shown any "Christians" to have been involved.

There's no dispute about Calvinism (or Arminianism) going on here. Please don't bring it in.

One of the "experts" on the team was a minister from a local church.

Thank you. Calvinism brings out strong emotions in people. Just look at how long those threads go.

I think the reason they were focusing on an old case was because one of the children who had accused the sheriff is grown up now and wanted to apologize for lying.

The show was lame. It was a bunch of wannabe detectives running around imagining devil masks everywhere. Encyclopedia Brown had more investigative skills than the 5 on this show had put together.

Oh yeah, video games knocked Ozzy out of the top spot as the most blamed for everything. :-)

There will always be those (Mostly those who are immoral) that will think all Christians are nut cases. So what if they think that? They will think it no matter what because they want to continue to be immoral and Christians rain on their parade. Is it not the intention of Christians to please God and not other people?

Was this the agenda of the social workers? Pretty amazing, I thought social workers faced Washington when they pray.

It does not seem to me that the "team" was a group of Christians or a Christian Church on a wrong-headed mission but public employees and two private citizens doing a sloppy job of detective work.

Man... I remember the Satanic Panic in the early 80s... The issues were rock music, "backwards messages",drugs, and how Judas Priest made two kids kill themselves...

Brings back wonderful memories of my early childhood. My mother, God Bless her, made me read books and watch videos made by tin foil hat types.

I continued to listen to what I wanted to, and I never took up killing cat or dogs and never sold my soul. Every few years the foil hatters find something new for Satan to be in.

Sorry I cannot let that one slide . . .

The order is this (first put on foil hat):
1. Video Games
2. Marylin Manson
3. Homosexuals
4. Ozzy

The guy's slipping. He better do something really "satanic" during his next tour . . .

Reality check: DATELINE does indeed have an agenda, and it is to get high ratings so as to make more money from ad sales, period, full stop, end of agenda.

No one encouraged me to read... I did it on my own... I listened to whatever I wanted, too, critics be damned ;0) I was not only the only long-haired metalhead in my church, I also taught Biblical History and Geography to the younger Sunday Shcool kids... Who knew Baptists could be so open-minded ;0)

And no, I didn't start killing animals, either... at least until I went to work in a research lab in Asia ... ;0)

Well looks like Satan's "mighty" plot to get us to sell our souls with metal music was pretty much a waste of demonic time . . .

I think metal music is one of those things your just grow out of for the most part. I still like metal, some of the newer stuff with the Dj's is really cool (Hed PE, Executioners, Incubus, etc.), but it's not my favorite anymore.

Maybe the kid is not safe in a church. A sodomite may be the pastor.
