Bin Laden fled in December, says CIA

Jan 15 2002

Osama bin Laden not only escaped the US bombing of eastern Afghanistan, but has reportedly fled the region by sea, according to a CIA report.

In a major setback to the war on terrorism, CIA analysts have said bin Laden escaped from the Tora Bora cave complex around the first week of December.

CIA officials told America's ABCNews that one captured al-Qaida fighter claims to have witnessed, in one of the Tora Bora hiding places, bin Laden handing control to one of his deputies

"I think that most intelligence analysts are absolutely convinced at this point that bin Laden has slipped the noose and has left Afghanistan and Pakistan," said Vince Cannistraro, a former CIA counter-terrorism chief.

To fool US forces in the area, the CIA believes, bin Laden left behind a video message that was transmitted only after had escaped.

Asked about bin Laden's whereabouts, Secretary of State Colin Powell said he did not know where bin Laden was but that US forces were in "hot pursuit" of him. "I can't say he is out of that immediate region. I have seen nothing that suggests we know where he is, whether it's in Afghanistan, Pakistan or somewhere else," Powell said.

US, British, German and French forces have been searching dozens of ships in the Arabian Sea for the last two months and the CIA have concluded that bin Laden most likely fled by sea to Pakistan.

"In a major setback to the war on terrorism"...

...to the stupid, or...uh..."journalists," whose job they think it is to cause oodles of fruitless, ignorant stress and conversation about the unlikely, unproveable, or outright wrong...

It is NOT a "setback" if we allowed him to escape...

We want the Network, more than that rat-bag of a man. We want his friends, and their stuff.

Unplug your TV. Let the President steer. That's what we hired him for, and that's what he promised to do. You would never come up with this gabage yourself. It takes a professional.

Interesting. No offense, but that's pretty old information. I'm hoping that our crack CIA intell guys new about this a long time berfore they actually reported it. DEBKAfile reported on December 8, 2001, that Bin Laden had just left Afghanistan, POSSIBLY retreating into Pakistan. A short time later they reported that Bin Laden sent his extended family into Pakistan as a cover for his own escape through Iran and out by sea via the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas. I don't think you will find that information on their current home-page because it has scrolled off. To be privy to all of their information you have to subscribe, something I have yet to do.

As a side note, I just began reading this Jerusalem-based website a few days after September 11th, and they have been about 90-95% correct on all of their reports. Some of their reports have been pretty grim...such as:

1. Rumsfield reporting to NATO in mid-December that Al-Qaeda has between six and twelve operational cruise missiles. Where did they get those cruise missiles, you might ask? Apparently, they were pieced together from several unexploded and only slightly damaged cruise missiles from the last attack (under Clinton)on Bin Laden that involved about seventy cruise missiles.;

2. China not only has been sending weapons to the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, but hundreds of Chinese "volunteers" have also participated in the current campaign as members of Al-Qaeda.;

3. A ship belonging to the U. S. Sixth Fleet docked at Haifa recently. The ship contains vaccines and other medicines in anticipation of an attack on Israel using weapons of mass destruction.;

4. It is strongly believed by Middle Eastern intelligence analysts and investigative journalists that Al-Qaeda does indeed have weapons of mass destruction to include at least two of the old KGB suitcase bombs. Our mainstream press has been VERY deceptive on this issue, and will only report that they are being told by Pentagon/Defense that there is no evidence that Al-Qaeda is CURRENTLY working on waepons of mass destruction. DEBKAfile has strongly hinted that those two suitcase bombs may already be in position in the U. S. for a future terror event.

5. Iraq now has four operational super-guns capable of firing shells or rocket-assisted shells to a range of 1200-1500 kilometers. These guns are much-improved versions of the super-gun that an artillery expert by the name of Bull was designing for Iraq prior to Desert Storm. Targets from Tel Aviv to New Delhi are now in range of shells that can deliver nuclear, biological or chemical weapons in addition to an extremely large high-explosive round.

6. Despite the soothing commentary by the U. S. mainstream press, India and Pakistan are much closer to an all-out conflict than we are being told. Such a conflict will probably involve the use of nuclear weapons. The U. S. military and other concerns currently stationed in Pakistan have fully operational contingency plans to evacuate Pakistan if the Indian-Pakistan conlict goes nuclear. DEBKAfile reports that Al-Qaeda was an active planner on the attack on the Indian Parliament building. Bin Laden intends to push the entire region into an anti-West coalition by destabilizing the India-Pakistan conflict, as well as the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

Like I say, DEBKAfile is an excellent site, filled with all kinds of information that you will probably never see in our mainstream press.

It does not makes sense that we continued to look for bin Laden after the CIA supposedly knew he had fled Afganistan unless this was a decoy, and we really pursuing him elsewhere.

This is starting to sound like Elvis sitings. One book does not necessarily reveal the truth. Remember, the guy is trying to make a buck.

I recall the story about bin Laden in the hospital in France in '96, which seemed credible, but was later dismissed.

Do I believe that the Clinton admin let opportunities go to bring bin Laden and the alqueda to justice? Yes. I do not believe the current admin ignored the warnings. They were compiling all the data.

The CIA, which rarely issues public statements, did so in this case

Over the last decade of its Clintonization, the CIA (and the NSA) seem more and more inclined to harbor leakers, spillers, and PR agents. Which in itself provides ample evidence that these agencies are no longer in the business of intelligence, but have become Beltway bureaucracies.

Another Clinton legacy.
