Could you imagine the uproar if kids were forced to say the Nicean creed?everyday?, yes. for a few weeks as part of an "immersion" designed religions (the plural is important) course? i think the people who would mind the most are those who wish their kids immersed in only one religion, and don't understand that the idea is certainly not to convert, but rather educate.

The government forcing anyone to practice a religious, event temporarily for educational purposes, is TYRANNY.

Unbelievable. Paul Harvey had this story today also.

. . .it is not the job of public education to make religion an equal opportunity experience for students; certainly not a single opportunity or a mandatory opportunity as well.

"I live in Byron and I am mustering the troops as we speak. I am close friends with the head of the town council and most of the other influential members of our small town . This WILL NOT stand. To say I'm pi$$ed at this would be an understatement. First I'm going to find out what is really happening. Then if I find that they are teaching that crap cult religion I will ... with the aid of my friends ... organize a protest and hopefully a freep there. In the meantime life for Ms Castro is going to be a little more .... eventful (legally of course). This is a small town made of farmers and ranchers who many are decendants of the Donner party survivors. These people are VERY conservative and will NOT tolerate this kind of activity."
I hope you will report back as to exactly WHAT IS HAPPENING! I, for one, e-mailed this story to O'Reilly and Fox & Friends. Would have e-mailed it to Rush, but couldn't locate his e-mail addy. Plan to send it to a couple of local talk radio stations tomorrow.
Like you, clamper1797, this story outraged me. In fact, I could feel my blood pressure rising while reading it! It's time, folks. It's almost too late, for logic to be force fed back into our society. The silent "majority" better damn sure better open their mouths soon.... Very soon!

E.D. on Fox and Friends talked about it this morning. She hadn't confirmed it yet, but she said she would be checking it out. I'm sure she will talk about it Monday.

Go get'em! I think this teacher should be questioned by the FBI. She's about to get a cold splash of reality in her face.

"plenty of kids are forced to say things at school with much less educational value than 3 weeks of islamic immersion.
So... I'm okay, you're okay. Everything's okay with you, right? Get your head out of your @ss. This damn school has no business teaching Islam or any other religion. The fact that a U.S. school has a text book dedicated to this culture and religion should open your blind eyes!
I only hope you don't have any children.... GEEZE!

You've made my day! I was hoping my e-mail would get their attention, and maybe it did. It kills me to leave for work every morning while Fox & Friends is still on. This morning, I wondered if anyone would pay attention to my e-mail titled ***WARNING*** in the subject box. I hope to see more coverage of this story.

Great work. She was fired up and said she was going to get to find out what was going on. She doesn't back down when she gets mad.

it is not the job of public education to make religion an equal opportunity experience for studentsI don't think the aim is to teach religions so that students can go off and pick their own -- if anything forcing kids to do something may turn them off of it. But if religions are to be taught, and since they are such a part of human experience that they OUGHT to be taught, they should certainly teach them all. No the job of public education is not to give kids a multiple choice question in picking a religion, but it is to educate -- in a well rounded manner -- children in what the world is like. ergo, teach them all religions. i can see some who would follow an immersion approach. others just read textbooks. depends on the teacher/curriculum i guess.

No, Religion ought not be taught in public schools. The subject is too subjective. What ought to be taught is math, science and reading at this point. Nothing else.

I can remember learning very little about Islam in school during my childhood and teen years. So, is this article a joke, then? I mean, I just can't believe it. So many Americans know so little about Islam -that it true. I only know some things about it because of curiousity and reading about it and also because of knowing some Muslim people (long before the tragedy on 9/11). I don't mean to sound prejudiced, but Islam is not a forgiving faith -at least in my opinion. So, what appeal could it possily have to most sensible, freedom-loving Americans who want to choose for themselves (no disrespect to my Muslim friends)? I is no wonder than this faith appeals to the down and out in prisons (Black Muslims). Also, it seems like it is becoming more and more like some kind of crime or shame to be a white, conservative Christian in this country -is that my imagination or what?
