What's Your Favorite Quote?
1/3/02 | Stevio

Posted on 01/03/2002 5:33:02 AM PST by stevio

I know this is pure vanity, but here it is.

I'm joining a new company and they have a "Get to know your fellow employee" kind of thing. They ask your name, marital status, favorite book (The Bible), movie (Road Warrior), music (Jazz), web site (Free Republic), etc..
My dilemma is I need a favorite quote. Some quotes are good for certain situations and some are not. As I respect and admire my Freeper family, I ask for your help.

P.S. When asked; "what you want your co-workers to know about you", I penned a very pro-Second Amendment statement.

Let me clarify my post. I know (for sure) that Reagan said it (during the '84 campaign, I believe) -- what I don't know is whether it's original with him, being either his own or written for him by one of his speechwriters, e.g., "Mr. Gorbachev -- Tear Down This Wall!!!", written by Peter Robinson, but pure Gipper in sentiment, as also with your quote. In any event, it's a great quote and it fits him like a glove!

"Churchill never said that. It's a myth."

Well, he should have.

“Any age that does not exalt courage will be confounded by the Alamo, and baffled by the men who stayed in it. Any age that fears war more than servitude, or death more than honor, must denigrate the Alamo. Ages that do not honor the concept of liberty or death will fight no Alamos. Ages that do not cling to the great values of love, honor, courage, sacrifice, the soldier values, will not only fail to remember the Alamo, they may not long endure.” – T. R. Fehrenbach, Texas historian

Great quote from a great book: Lone Star: A History of Texas and the Texans

"If you're not a liberal by the time you're 20, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative by the time you're 30, you have no brain." - Winston Churchill

This is a favorite quote of mine. Always thought it was a Churchill quote, whether it is or isn't, it's still a favorite.

My favorite quote from that movie comes right at the end when Terril is leaving and he tells Wales

I'd tell him the war is over.

I like it because so many people seem to find it impossible to walk away from finished business.

My favorite quote of all times is from the original Iron Duke, Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington. He once said of the subordinate generals fighting with him agaisnst Napoleon

I don’t know what effect these men will have upon the enemy, but, by God, they frighten me.

I have that same feeling when i read some of the more outlandish threads on this site.

The only good thing ever to come out of Stalin were some cold, twisted one liners 1) When told that the Pope condemned his actions Stalin turned and said "How many divisions does the Pope have." 2) When told that, although the Russians had plenty of troops to take on the Germans, their equipment was terrible Stalin retorted "Quantity has a quality of it's own" 3) A German double agent working in the Japanese embassy (his name escapes me)during the beginning of the war alerted Stalin about Germany's planned attack through Poland. Several years later Stalin had him executed. When reminded what the spy had done for him Stalin stared icily and said "Gratitude is a disease of the dogs".
