I am was born post-vatican 2. I attended one Tridentine Mass 3 years ago and enjoyed it immensely. I also left very grateful for the vernacular Mass, yet gravely disappointed in the abuse of the vernacular Mass.

It is so wrong that all Latin and Greek has been eliminated, when the Council explicitly disallows such total excising of these sacred languages from the vernacular Mass.

And of course the Johnny Carson Mass that is so prevalent is disgusting. Going to a Tridentine Mass is an eye opener.

I think all parishes should be required to offer one such Tridentine Latin Mass each week on Sunday, one novus ordo Latin Mass eash week on Sunday, and one novus ordo vernacular Mass each week on Sunday. They should be rotated to maximize the exposure people have to all three types of Masses. This should continue for 30 years until the vernacular Mass is done away with and the two Latin Masses are considered standard worldwide.

I don't know how feasible 3 different Masses would be on a Sunday - in my Parish we have a shortage of Priests and also the Church has been so modified that a Latin Mass would be at odds with the surroundings. Sad. Then you have the problem of just how many Priests know the Latin.

In my Church, the Eucharist is kept on the left side of the alter, their are no kneelers at the alter, we have altergirls and boys wearing sloppy sneakers at Mass and a kindly but liberal type Priest in charge.

Maybe if the Cardinal in charge of the Diocese OK'd more Tridentine Masses in some of the older churches - that might work. Where I live (in Massachusetts) I had to drive about 50 miles for the closest Latin Mass. Not something that is possible each week. I believe there are only 3 Tridentine Masses in Massachusetts - kind of stupid since we have such a huge Catholic population.

I did love the Tridentine Mass and I think next Sunday when I go to Mass at my regular Church I am going to feel like I am in a Protestant church... From what I understand, Vatican II did not mandate most of the changes that we see today in our Churches - a lot of the more liberal elements in our Churches sort of "seized the day." Time to regroup and realize that modernizing and liberalizing are two different things.

I do think that it is so sad when I see Catholics fighting with each other (like in this post)- I learn lots, but I can't help but think of the sadness it must cause our Father in Heaven when he hears his children rail against their Mother, the Church.
