Interesting logic. I suppose then as a white Southerner then I should feel offended by basically every other restaurant in the country sans Cracker Barrel since I feel "left out"....theme and motif-wise that is.
Intelligent comment (as always, Pharm). The smoking gun in the Shoney's case was a statement of a (very) senior manager, who entered a Shoney's with a large percentage of black wait staff and made a comment that "We need to lighten up the atmosphere in here a bit." Perhaps it is not a coincidence that Shoney's is not doing very well these days.
I understand, however that Shoney's is the "low-cost restaurant" algore claims to be eating at regularly (and was mis-quoted by "no-terrorists here" Reuters as stating that he was opening up a low-cost restaurant). Al could very well be pigging out regularly at Shoney's. It would certainly explain all the weight he has put on. Have you ever had a Shoney's all-you-can-eat-breakfast-trough?

I guess the nighborhood was changing, and the over the two years we went there the racial makeup of the patrons started to change ever more to becoming black dominated. It was no matter to us, just something we noticed.
However, the last two times we went they had changed their seating hostesses, and both times, blacks who came in after us were all seated, both times when we checked, we found we were dropped from the waiting list.
The first time we complained and the manager gave us free desserts. The second time he apologized, but otherwise did nothing.
There was, of course, no third time. We stopped going. I and my wife were angry, but we figured if they don't need our business, then we'll go elsewhere, and we did.
The franchise (previously booming) went out of business two years later.
Nonesense dozen of "white" employees will testify that the company condoned discrimination against white customers according to the report I heard on KNX1070 (LA) this morning.
Furthermore it is reported that black customers were sometimes served food that had been discarded in the trash.
If I ever discovered some *astards at a restaraunt served me food from a trashcan it would take all of my strength and a lot of prayer to keep from coming back and shooting every muther in the place.

Who gives a rat's ass. That's no ones business. If you wanna feed your kids a the friggin cracka' barrel or whatever at 9:48 or friggin midnight that's your perogative. If the place is open you should be seated and served. If your not served because your black it is discrimination plain and simple. I say sue their asses off.

You have some sort of inside knowledge into the business practices of the cracka' barrel. Insight into their employees and managers minds perhaps? You happen to know for a fact that they did not discriminate? You know for a fact that they did not serve black patrons food from the trash? If you do please share your inside information with the rest of us...

Boy, I haven't been to a Shoney's since I was in school in Ohio! I have never seen one anywhere in NY State.
Moreover, mafree can forget about ever serving on a jury where h/she will hear a case like this.
Not to mention the real potential threat of recieving the, "Jackson Treatment" (assualted) in the same way the Rev Patterson did at Toyota.

I speculate the NAACP & Jesse have been after them for a while. The first step was to quit selling CSA memorabilia. I image the pressure continued and is now resulting in a lawsuit.
The key is the money - follow the money. CB is very successful & profitable, and these blacks are after a free dollar.
