U.S. confirms bin Laden's whereabouts, ABC says
Kyodo News | 12/12/01

WASHINGTON, Dec 11, 2001 (Kyodo via COMTEX) -- The U.S. military has confirmed that Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, and leaders of his al-Qaida network are hiding in a mountainous area in eastern Afghanistan, the ABC television network said Tuesday.

After dropping a powerful "daisy cutter" bomb on the Tora Bora mountain cave and tunnel complex Sunday, the U.S. military monitored a series of panicked radio and satellite-phone calls, ABC quoted U.S. intelligence sources as saying.

The communications showed bin Laden was near the blast and is now on the run, and that many other al-Qaida leaders were killed, it said.

Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Pentagon press briefing Tuesday that Sunday's bombing had the "desired" effect.

U.S. special operations forces on the ground confirmed "dead al-Qaida" members, Myers said.

How about detonating half a dozen daisy cutters at once or in rapid succession. If it doesn't kill them it will fill their drawers.

I was thinking yesterday it is strange to hear these comments about dead enemy. I wondered what we would be hearing if Gore or Clintoon was still in charge?

a series of panicked radio and satellite-phone calls

Nothing like a near death experience to put a little panic in you.

Pres. Clinton: "Yesterday, in response to the attacks on New York and Washington, we fired a $2 million missile into a $5 tent and hit a camel in the butt. Today, in order to avoid more bloodshed, I am declaring victory, sending Osama bin Laden money and technology to build the new Islamic Republic of al Quaidastan, withdrawing our troops, and moving on to do the business of the American people: interviewing new interns and pardoning terrorists."

I hope someone is getting a recording of these panicked phone calls and radio transmissions, they should make for a good laugh.

Reporter: What was the intended effect?

Myers: To kill al-Qaida.

What a breath of fresh air to have someone telling it like it is...

Back in Bubba's "commanding" days this would have been something like-
" We intended to degrade the potential of their ability to perform their desired function...."

"After dropping a powerful "daisy cutter" bomb on the Tora Bora mountain cave and tunnel complex Sunday ..."

I'm surprised we're not hearing more from outraged environmentalists. "Why are you cutting down all those daisies??? One, two, three, four, we don't want your environmentally hateful war!"

Honesty is never so noticable until you do without it for so long.

I would like to nominate this as the "Quote of the Day"!

You know the sad other side of the coin, the people who pass themselves off as journalists who were asking the questions, calculated to continue the tradition of lying, and Rumsfeld would not let them. He actually came out and told them, quote as best I can, "if I were to speculate on this (something going on in Afghanistan), I would be lying, to you, because I don't know the answer". This after repeated efforts re re re asking the same idiotic question. I gave Mr Rumsfeld a standing ovation.

I really like daisies, but I like cutting them even more. I think we should use more of these. I hope we do.

Remember that TV show, "Please Don't Eat The Daisies?" Now in Bin Laden's case I would make an exception.

"Interesting that they have all of that information and still haven't put him in custody."

Well, when you stop to consider that the "they" telling us these things is really the media, it's not that surprising. Although I suspect that Geraldo Rivera(sp?) will be taking OBL out any minute now.

"I wondered what we would be hearing if Gore or Clintoon was still in charge?"

We wouldn't be fighting the same war in the same manner...we would be relying on Mr Janet Reno to "bring these people to justice".

In other words, we would be doing the same nothing we did for the previous 8 years. Maybe we would have lobbed a few Cruise missles toward Kabul.
