Take another look at my quote and you'll see that I'm thinking like a money manager. The inflation rate comes directly of an internet business page that reports CPI, exchange rates, etc.
If my money manager told me to ignore the inflation rate and increased costs when he was telling me how much I'd gained, I'd fire him immediately. If he told me to ignore the present value of my investments and only reported projections in terms of future dollars, he'd be history before you could write "silly."
