TBN Televangelists Buy $5,000,000 Home
Deception in the Church ^ | Nov.4,2001, page K15 | LOS ANGELES TIMES,

DITC Commentary: Ever wonder where all those "seed faith" dontations are going? Whose getting rich again? Remind me. It thought it was those people who sent in their seed faith donations who were going to get a "100 fold increase" and that they would be the ones buying luxury homes. What a shock to find out it doesn't work out that way! Duh!!!!

Televangelists JAN and PAUL CROUCH of the Costa Mesa-based Trinity Broadcasting Network have purchased a Newport Beach house for close to $5 million, Orange County Realtors say.

A washing machine?

Other material things?

These Freepers who get their kicks cutting down TBN and the Crouch's are also some of the ones who cry: Ban this poster or that one, their fingers are quick on the "abuse" button.

Those in leadership positions, such as the Crouch's, are held to a higher standard.

By Whom? And on what authority? That sounds like hot air to me.

Christ said: Luke 12:47-49: "But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."

This applies to those in leadership positions and those with great wealth, as well. There are other scriptures, also in the Old Testament, that show how God expects more from those who are in leadership positions (pastoral, teachers, political, etc.) because they have greater influence over people, for good or bad. A higher standard applies to those with greater influence.

That's ok. They just lack understanding and I have to remember from whence I came. I used to be just as adamant on the other side of the fence, before I had my "Damascus Road" experience.

We're called to love our enemies and pray for those that persecute us. I fall short of that sometimes when I'm tired or frustrated. I get a little sharp-tongued too. Just ask the other half! *chuckle*

Anyway, we need to hear what the grievances are... from the world's standpoint. Gives us lots of prayer material and keeps us on our toes!. God Bless! :)

Yea yea...
Although it'd certainly be a truism your POV & mine aren't going to jibe much on the subject of these two et al?

You sure did nail it there, alright.

If this is true, I don't think this couple is being good stewards of God's money.

Congratulations!!! You have just won the 2001 Understatement of the Year award.

You're absolutely right. If I hadn't stopped reading the verses at that point, I would have known that.

I live in a small townhouse and I feel myself VERY blessed; you have no idea.

I do not devote my life to the pursuit of material things, nor do I put my hope in them (I hope!). As I have found, they can all be ripped away from you without notice; the only permanent and steadfast thing in this world and beyond is God.

Having material things is not a bad thing -- if we are thankful to God and have the proper attitude toward them there is nothing wrong. What is wrong is 1) judging God's favor toward you by how much you have 2) gluttony 3)putting your hope in earthly riches and 4) depriving the poor (and the church) while you bask in opulence.

Jesus sets forth plainly (starting with DO NOT COVET) that we are to be masters of money, not the other way around. These people plainly defy all of the Lord's teachings about money, and far, far worse, they deny and withhold the gospel from the people they pretend to "minister" to.

Just live and let live, I say. I'll shut up now and maybe this thread will die faster.

As soon as I went & said we wouldn't agree, here?
We agree.

Paul and some of his guests always poke fun at Jan for her makeup... especially the eyelashes. (she's had them fall off on camera...and plucks the other and keeps going) Who knows "why" she likes it? Who cares?

Them eyebrows sure are something, when she blinks it's looks like a butterfly's wings.

How about 2 other cons, Dr Gene Scott and the always pompous and overbearing Rev.Shuler. Anybody want to tell the tale about how the little guy in the house next to Shuler's empire threw a monkey wrench into his expansion plans.

>A higher standard applies to those with greater influence.

Nowhere does it say YOU may hold others to a higher standard, and that's what's happening in this thread. Christ also said "Love your neighbor as yourself". How do you feel about that one, or do you prefer the Bible Cafeteria Style?

What we have here are lots of little home brew theological piss-ants trying to sting those who are more financially sucessful then themselves. Makes you fear for the "jury of peers" system.

I repeat how would you feel if the $5M became $10M when the valuable property was resold in a few years? Would Jesus praise them for being prudent and wise stewards of His possessions?

>...He would praise them if they sold everything they had, gave it to the poor, and THEN followed Him.

That is a total misreading of Jesus encounter with Zacchaeus, the Tax Collector. Jesus in no way meant that to apply to all his followers, only to Zacchaeus, the crooked percentage-based Tax Collector, who was in need of special attention.

>I am not saying you HAVE TO sell everything you own to be in the ministry

Well that's good, because Jesus certainly never said it.

>I do not see as valid people who make their millions asking for donations from poor

I don't either, and have no truck for the likes of TBN, but I sure get tired of amateur piss-ant theologians attacking on the wrong grounds when there is so much theologically to question. Guess they think attacking money is safer and easier than confronting the REAL issues(but not really).

>Jesus wore a seamless robe...so valuable that the Roman soldiers cast lots for it. He used creative miracles to feed the multitudes.... and He needed a treasurer to keep track of all the money He had.

Excellent point, among your MANY excellent points. One thing Jesus was NOT, and that's POOR. That is a myth propagated by those trying to sell Christianity to the poor of South America, and elsewhere...

>Jesus's "purse" of money was never empty, but he never went out and bought a new robe or new sandals with it...

You don't know that! You are guessing. Quote the verse that verifies what you allege.

How many of these things could be done if you sold your computer and gave me the money?

I don't doubt what you say, but what makes you say total fakes? Are you referring to their Theology?

>We tithe through our local church and support other ministries.. thru radio, TV and missionary outreaches with our offerings. I can say for a fact... that since we've been doing this... the Lord has blessed us abundantly...

DITTO. So much so, the "piss-ants for Jesus" on this thread would certainly gasp and carp about it. They don't believe that God can actually bless his own.
