I've taken my Zippo through. Since it is metal, I had to put it in the little basket. Paper matches? I've had them in my carry-on without anyone asking.

My understanding is no on both.
And since I'm a smoker, I've decided to take wooden chopsticks and some string with me next time. And a magnifying glass.
