I seem to recall a very evil Queen with magic poison apples, and a man with an ax with evil in "Snow White". Gosh, how did I grow up not to be a satanic cultist?

The example you cite proves the anti-Potter perspective instead of the other way around. The old fairy tales that portray witches and their craft as evil bolsters the Potter critics. Most of the classic fairy tales involve people who suffer as victims of spells and witchcraft. The villains tend to be the ones casting the spell. The heroes try to overcome the debilitating effects of such evil mischeif. I am a Christian and have no desire to follow the herd to the Potter bookrack or film showings. I respect your right to do so, if that is your desire. I know not everyone agrees with me, but for me, the Scriptures hold more sway than the latest popular culture fad:

Deut.18:9 ¶ When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. 13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God. 14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

Gal.5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Rev.21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

You must really think that the Wizard of Oz and Casper the Friendly Ghost are Satanic. Both have good witches as characters.

It seems that many modern conservative Christians are very strict and exercised about their condemnation of, and moral stance against witchcraft, sorcery, occultism etc. However, their opposition to the occult is not matched by other things God warns against in the Bible. It seems as if God's warnings against uncleanness, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, not cutting the sidegrowth of one's beard, and several others get totally no respect. I could list out some of the things God instructs us about in Leviticus, but no one ever responds to my posts when I do that. I am serious. I want to know what seperates one from the other.

Amen and Thank You for the references for those who question the NT's stance on witchcraft.

Of course, you're forgetting Cinderella's fairy godmother and her magic. But you're right- anything with witchcraft must be the devil's work (sarcasm fully on)
