Southerners add syllables. I know Texans who can make "dawg" sound like a five syllable word.

NUKE as in nook-ie. There, all the fellows should be able to understand that.

The ultimate weapon is a mass driven hunk of rock, from the asteroid belt.

Probably will happen within the next ten years.

"They're scary and they're spoooky...." They're way too bright to loooky..." They'll make you glow they're noookie..." They're our Noook-lee-er fam-il-leeeee!"

Yeah, I remember back during the Korean War when that song was a hit. Of course, that was before the P.C. crowd made 'em take out the line "They could kill a lot of gookies...".

I seem to recall that in my youth in the 60's I was more interested in nookie than nukie. Does that help?

Hate to tell you this, but have you ever heard our current president pronounce this word. He appeared in Milwaukee at a VFW convention prior to the election...his speech included the word Nuclear (Nu Ku Ler to W) countless times, the soundbites were very painful.

I e-mailed everyone I could think of on his campaign staff...I even e-mailed him directly and tried to explain the word comes from nucleus. I received a reply from Laura Bush which told me that, of course, they really hadn't read the e-mail. I can't say I've heard him use this word recently...have you noticed if he's changed the pronunciation?

Southerns add Syllablies

In Texas we are proud to pronounce EVERY letter in a word. Why, because we can.But to understand let me give you a few:

oil business=awlbidnes

I=Ieee

dog=d-aug

nuclear=nu-cle-air!

Only when angry or in love. As in (when in love) "You shur are per-er-er-ty-y" (pretty), or (when angry) "you're a scu-uu-uu-um ba-aa-aa-G".

Its pronounced nyuk-lee-ur. This term is derived from the command to launch which is, "Hey Moe! nyuk, nyuk, nyuk."

Our dear prez still says "nucular." I heard him a few days ago.

I can't hold it against him, though--I've heard PhD candidates (in biochemistry) pronounce it the same way.

I prefer to call them "Distributed Denial of Service attacks", or "DDoS attacks" for short.

When the quake hit Seattle just about six months to a year ago (not sure of the exact date), an anchorman on Fox News (of all places, FOR SHAME) pronounced "tectonic" as "tutonic". The geologist being interviewed did his best to keep a straight face...

Po-tay-to, po-tah-to
To-may-to, to-mah-to
Can't we all just get along?

The President doesn't pronounce "terrorist" the same way I do either; and frankly, as long as he blows them all to Allah, I don't CARE one whit what he calls them.
