I have a low cholesterol count too. But I am almost a vegetarian. I eat mostly fish. Almost no beef or pork flesh. But I have eggs and butter and cheese. I don't care for the sweets either. Love the hot spicy stuff though. I read a book in the mid 80's that was actually written in the mid-70's about the subject of fats and cholesterol. Written by a doctor, don't recall the name right now, but he made very much sense on the subject. He said -- any fat, like margarine, which solidifies at room temperature is worse that butter. It is lacking in the nutrional value that butter has for one thing. And will clog arteries as likely as anything. He also pointed out the fallacy of believing that starchy foods which are fried in an unsaturated fat are better for you, as unsaturated fats will become saturated at high temperatures and make a bond with the starch molecules. As he put it -- think of it as a man with empty hands (unsaturated) and at a high temperature you are filling those hands with the starchy molecules. I personally think that worrying about it causes high cholesterol. Eat lots of green leafy veggies and fruits and forget about it. 8^)

Another thought on this. I also don't care for sodas. Cokes and stuff. I have believed for a while now that they cause a lot of the health problems people suffer. For one thing, you are consuming what -- carbon dioxide, and where does all that carbon go once our bodies have utilized the oxide part? I believe it ends up as plaque in our arteries and stones in our kidneys among other things. I could be wrong though.

Interesting. I don't care for sodas either. Do you think this business of our having low cholesterol, not liking sweets, preferring spicy foods, not liking sodas are all connected in some way? I eat meat like crazy, you're a vegetarian, but otherwise we have similar tastes, and we both have low cholesterol. By that I mean the bad cholesterol.

Actually, there IS a correlation mentioned in this piece--heart attacks went up at the same rate as radio and TV set acquisition. In short, becoming a couch potato, coupled with a relatively high-fat diet, is NOT good for your heart.

Had a friend who bragged about eating massive amounts of meet. At the time his mother was in the hospital for heart disease.

Uh, OK. That proves it for me. No more eating meet.

My mother celebrated her 90th. birthday last week. She is a wonderful southern cook with lots of butter, cream etc. She eats bacon 3 or 4 times a week. She's in 3 card clubs and is an artist. She will be happy to hear this report.
