"No one will catch up with Barry for a very long time, except maybe Barry."

Sammy might.

But you know, with the parallels between 2001 and 1941, with the WTC/Pentagon attacks and Peal Harbor, I'm wondering if you might be right.

In some ways, Bonds' season this year remeinds me of Ted Williams in '41. Both came at the crest of the two most prolific offensive eras in baseball history: 1920 to 1941, and 1987 to present.

Almost like we've had our moments to enjoy the calms before the storms.

Hope I'm wrong.

And don't forget that Joe Dimaggio had a 56-game hitting streak in 1941. It was the last year of the really big stats for a while.

Followed by a one-armed player, the Cubs in the World Series, and Girl Baseball. They could almost make a movie out of the last one. Nobody would believe a movie about the Cubs in the world series.

Ted Williams in '41.

We'll always wonder how Williams would have done if he had played baseball instead of fighting wars during his prime years.

And Bonds is similar personality-wise to Williams, plus Bonds, like Williams, was not renowned for post-season excellence. The analogy will really jell if Bonds were to be robbed of the MVP award for some reason (Williams hit .406 in 1941 and lost the MVP title to Joe DiMaggio, with his 56 game hitting streak.)
