Brit Hume attended the memorial mass of Barbara Olson this morning. He reported later, on Fox News, that he was particularly touched by the homily given by her parish priest.
The priest, whose name I don't recall, spoke about evil being some'one,' not some'thing.' Mr. Hume seemed to be very touched by this and even discussed, in a thoughtful manner, the existence of evil as a reality with a name- 'Satan.'
I have seen Mr. Hume discussing this twice. This is the first time I recall any major media discussing the existence of Satan as a real possibility, or probability. Has anyone else noticed this?
:)
Along with all this sadness, Fox News has put together some really inspiring films such as one with President Bush's voice giving his speech at the prayer service with scenes of flags flying across America and other very moving scenes. The people at Fox are such good people inside and so patriotic that it just shines through at a time of this. None of them are hesitant to speak of God and faith. Linda Vester came to tears and unable to speak while interviewing some family members. They have really been wonderfully inspiring. I said this to them in a thank you mail. I love them like family because I have them on all day and have had long before this attack.
If we strive to do what we ought, Satan has little power against us save that of temptation. It is when we do wrong acts that we give Satan a chance to strike at us -- a chance he is only too happy to take.

Evil is very cunning.

Yes, of course, God is our concern.
However, when we bring ourselves to the attention of Evil because we are concerning ourselves with God, he recognizes us as a threat to his cause and responds by attacking us more forcefully than before.
Evil has had a free reign in this country for a long time.
These terrorists are not Satan, they are poor bastards who listened to him.
Yes, I do feel sorry for them, after a fashion. The saying 'There but for the grace of God goes I' comes to mind. OTOH, feeling sorry for them and for their culture -- feeling pity, that is -- does not mean that they must not be made to pay. We must have justice and just punishment -- including war, if necessary.
But we will accomplish nothing good if we go off half-cocked and filled with unreasoning rage and a thirst for revenge. We must not lower ourselves to the level of our adversary. If we do, we only weaken ourselves and make things worse.

At one point he talked about a photograph which had once appeared in the old Washington Star of a blade of grass which had managed to find a tiny crack and grow through a brand-new superhighway in St. Louis, and then addressed his congregation as "My fellow blades of grass."
Not only have I noticed this, I have done nothing but talk about how wonderful Brit was in his interview with Tony Snow this afternoon after the Barbara Olson memorial service. It is time we give voice to the reality we know is present in this world. Catholics should always and everywhere be reminded of the St. Michael Prayer:
St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the malice and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into Hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
If everyone would recite this prayer at least once a day, we could defeat the evil one.
America has denied the existance of this evil force for much too long.
Thank you for that fair and unbiased report. off/sarcasm
