Reality is finally crashing New York’s utopian green-energy party
NY Post ^ | February 4, 2026 | Bjorn Lomborg

An outspoken global actor in the grand theater of climate policy, New York has long insisted the transition to green energy would be cheap and straightforward.

For years, state leaders have promised aggressive emissions cuts at little cost.

Now, reality is crashing the party, and the state has been caught out in that fib.

Facing a court-imposed Friday deadline, New York has effectively conceded that its green goals would pose “costs consumers simply cannot bear.”

This admission exposes the gaps between lofty ambition and the harsh economic realities of rapid decarbonization.

The state’s 2019 climate legislation made grand, sweeping promises. It demanded 70% renewable electricity and a 40% emissions cut from 1990 levels by 2030, escalating to a zero-emission power system by 2040 and net zero economy-wide by 2050.

Legislators, intoxicated by the myth that wind and solar are the “cheapest” energy sources, ignored warnings from analysts who pointed out that these intermittent power sources are only potentially cheap when the sun is shining or the wind is blowing.

All other times, the costs escalate as you need an entire backup power system for reliability.

The law is the law.. NY should be *FORCED* to meet these targets regardless of cost.

Sure, reality is crashing looney liberals. But they're too brainwashed to see it. It's never about reality. It's always about the agenda. They're as bad as .. Moonies. Or Jim Jones followers. Or Nazis.

New York has come up against the harsh realities of physics.

The solution is simple. New York should demand fundamental changes in physics textbooks. Oh, and burn all the old textbooks.

The irony. The state hung themselves and is now at the mercy of the courts.

Our great-grandparents built a world that runs on this s*** right here [oil]. Until it starts running on something else, we got to feed it, or the world stops. There is an alternative. You can throw your phone away and trade that Mercedes in for a bicycle or a horse and start hunting your own food and living in a tent, but you'll be the only one and it won't make a damn bit of difference.

What Tommy Norris thinks about New York City's plan to convert to green energy.

---- "NYC Jews voting dem is what I can't wrap my head around."

Recent demographics stats say about 7 percent Jews. Catholics make up about 30-ish percent, and Protestants 40-ish percent. Those wacky "unaffiliated" are about 25 percent.

“Politicians have chased the utopian vision of net zero with religious zeal, but when the bill arrives, voters revolt.”

The voters put those politicians there,so they are the ones responsible for their suffering.

Don’t give up New York. Keep at it. The glorious utopia awaits. You just need to sacrifice a few more years and it will finally come about. History will judge counter revolutionaries harshly. A few years of bitter cold and roasting heat are small sacrifices you must make. Forward comrades.

This exact scenario was played out during the Carter Administration. The only reason the Dems keep pursuing this is because they are getting rich from it.

six years into the 11 available to meet the 2030 mandate, New York gets less electricity from zero-carbon sources than it did in 2019.
