Democratic Seattle Mayor-elect Katie Wilson declared that she will not allow private grocery stores to close in a resurfaced video from September.
Wilson said during her mayoral run that corporate grocery chains should not be allowed to only sell food to those who can afford it and expressed support for a “public option,” meaning that government-run grocery stores would be established. Her proposal emerged at a time when Democratic New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani had promised to establish government-run grocery stores throughout the city.
“Access to affordable, healthy food is a basic right. We cannot allow giant grocery chains to stomp all over our communities, close stores that will leave behind food deserts,” Wilson said. “Together, we can build a Seattle where fresh food is for everyone, not just for those who can afford it. Food deserts are not natural, corporations create them when they abandon our communities.”

Oh Boy will she get a shock
Wait she was elected Mom of Seattle ? LOL
A Right is the ability to pursue not a claim m on others’ property or talents
So, open stores with empty shelves?
If this is serious, she will soon learn about malicious compliance.
“Sure, we will leave the store open. We will sell cans of beans. And we will run out every day.”
There will be 1 employee. And the hours will be 10 AM until we run out of beans.
And the beans will be $20 a can.
Perhaps she should review the government policies that have caused grocery stores to leave, and examine exactly why the independent grocers have disappeared?
Directive 10-289, Point #2:
All industrial, commercial, manufacturing and business establishments of any nature whatsoever shall henceforth remain in operation, and the owners of such establishments shall not quit nor leave nor retire, nor close, sell nor transfer their business under penalty of nationalization of their establishment and of any and all of their property.
Totalitarians make such great managers. They respect other people so much. /s
Just like the one in KCMO....Kangz and Queenz had a govt store opened and it was WORSE than Moscow in 1992. Rotten meat, stale bread, expired cans......got partially shut down when the food cans popped and botulism everywhere. I think NOI came in and bleached everything. Still have to get appt to get to the store, open 2-3 hours a day IIRC.
It will be amusing to watch a Commie try to stop any investment or asset which wishes to exit the city from leaving. "People walk away" is far more powerful and persistent than "bow and kneel before me."
Katie Wilson’s parents in NY (both professors) send her money to pay for her rent and child care expenses.
Yeah, that’ll work. And yes, Virginia, the left really IS that naive, uneducated, and unsophisticated.
Her government stores will look like those in the old Soviet Union.
We who live on the west side of Seattle, the Olympic Peninsula, will kick back with our bag of popcorn and watch the fun.
Good luck with that.
Did she go to the Hugo Chavez school of how to be really stupid and destroy everything around you ?
If I was a high-up corporate manager at one of the chains that services that area an read this, I’d be going over the books with a fine toothed comb to see if they were profitable enough be worth staying open.
If the numbers just don’t seem profitable within a nice good sized buffer I’d be making plans to move them outside of King county today before the lawyers had to take over.
You beat me to it, Publius…GMTA
