President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he will give a $2,000 check to every American, which will come from the tariff revenue collected by the administration.
“A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that those against tariffs are “fools.”
While this proposal would likely need to be passed by Congress, it resembles legislation introduced this summer by Republican Sen. Josh Hawley’s (R-Mo.) this summer, to give $600 tariff rebates to nearly all Americans and their dependent children.
“My legislation would allow hardworking Americans to benefit from the wealth that Trump’s tariffs are returning to this country,” Hawley said.
In August, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that the administration’s priority is to use the tariff revenue to pay down the $38.12 trillion national debt.

The Treasury Department said in September that it had collected more than $195 billion from tariffs in 2025, while Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says he expects the US to collect $500 billion or more in tariff revenue annually.
On Sunday morning, Bessent told ABC's "This Week" that the administration's goal with the tariffs was to "rebalance trade" rather than simply take in revenue.

What happened to $5000?
But, But, But -- there's the possibility of the Supreme Court declaring the tariffs unconstitutional. Of course, $2,000 for most Americans would be difficult to claw back if the Supreme Court reverses them.Bessent: The $2,000 dividend could come in in lots of forms. It could be just the tax decreases that we are seeing in the President's agenda— no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on social security, deductibility of older loans — those are substantial deductions.
LOL! You're not getting those checks
He added in that he’s going to pay down debt. Originally he said just give money to the people. And many complained saying pay down the debt.
Trump knows what he’s doing. He would not say this without having signed those checks
Trump would not print money for this.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. — Pres. DJT
Trump seems oblivious that his spendiness puts upward pressure on inflation. So do many of his policies. He’ll likely discover the hard way before his 4 years is up.
Haha 2k but really only$600?
No $2,000 checks? Didn’t we get stimulus checks like that a few years ago?
Just pay down the debt.
Sure $2K would be great, but the cost of administering the checks is too high.
Lower debt reduces the insane interest servicing it, so does more for us.
Is Apple coming out with a new iPhone?
As I recollect, he had Congress hand out $1400 when a new iPhone came out that cost $1,400.
IIRC I eventually received 2 for $1,400
And 1 for $1,800
That was over about 14 months
“He added in that he’s going to pay down debt. Originally he said just give money to the people. And many complained saying pay down the debt.”
Right now however, people think that they know better about money than Trump. Besides that they love to not trust him. They thrive on their distrust of him
It is the most senseless phenomenon.
People believe that if they call the White House, bring it to Trump’s attention that he needs to consider the debt, regardless of the FACT that he brought it up in this very Truth post, that they will save him
What is that?
“Trump knows what he’s doing.”
He might be trying to make it too difficult for the Supreme Court to rule against him.
When those checks arrive at my house, my wife will claim her check as “her money” and my check as “our money.”
That sounds like a Personal issue.
Mr. President:
Continuing the enhanced subsidies is expected to cost 1/20th the cost of your handouts.
Can’t you make your handouts $1,900 and continue the enhanced subsidies?
Health care is more important than the new iPhones. Just ask Apple to cut their price by $100, they’ll more than make up for it by volume.
