It’s been a trying year for us Georgia Bulldogs football fans. We knew we had an uphill climb this year with a schedule that included away games at Alabama, Texas, and Ole Miss, but we had a formidable team, including a quarterback who was a preseason Heisman favorite and potential first-round draft pick in Carson Beck.
But nothing is a given in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). For years, I’ve said that there are so many good teams in the SEC that it could easily cannibalize itself any season. We experienced how tough the SEC can be this season.
For starters, our game against Kentucky, which usually plays tough against us, was awfully close for comfort. Then we lost to Alabama, and Beck developed a case of the turnovers for several games. Our receivers had a difficult time with dropped passes, and a loss to Ole Miss made us wonder if our College Football Playoff hopes were in jeopardy.
Somehow, the stars aligned. Beck defeated his turnover tendencies, we beat Texas and rivals Florida and Tennessee, and the other dominoes fell (i.e. other teams lost) that put us in the SEC Championship game. The day after a nail-biting Black Friday eight-overtime win over kid brother Georgia Tech, we found out that our SEC Championship opponent would be Texas — a rematch.

That was great.
As an Alabama fan (who is disappointed we didn’t make the playoffs), I want to thank the Bulldogs for beating the upstart Longhorns in the SEC championship. I simply couldn’t stomach the idea of a first year team winning the championship.
This season reminded me of the SEC of bygone years where we beat up on each other all year hurting our end of year ranking and national championship chances.
Now that Texas has been blooded in the toughest conference in the country, I welcome them to the annual cagefight!😵
When Georgia’s quarterback, Carson Beck (who was knocked out of the game on the last play of the first half), re-entered the game in overtime after Georgia’s backup quarterback was knocked out, his right arm was hanging limp at his side. When Georgia scored on the next play to win the game, Texas football learned one thing:
It…just…means…more.
I don’t see Georgia winning it with Beck. They looked much better with Stockton.
Georgia: “Welcome to the SEC Rookie”.
“Rookies” won the Big Ten and the Big 12.
Army runs the ball on almost every play.
Similar to an old fashioned Wishbone offense.
Their QB is a really feisty white guy who is built like a farm tractor.
I really enjoyed that game.
Army is the highest ranked American Conference team at #22.
Does #1 in your Conference mean that Army makes the playoffs?
Or, is Top 12 the cut off number?
BS. Bama and the dogs are good teams but everybody else is Wooster Bears.
Which has zero relevance to the discussion here
So clever - thanks for posting!
Army Tulane game was amazing. Army threw 2 passes the entire game.
Army QB is one big tough kid...loves running over people.
Will be fun to see how far they go.
As an OLD sailor, I feel sorry for NAVY this Saturday.
Playoffs already posted
That pick Stockton threw was worse decision he could have made under the circumstances. Wait until he sees the camera angle from behind the play.
I doubt Beck will be back for the playoffs.
Family had the Texas-Georgia game on. I don’t really care, but every time I looked up, either Texas was forcing a fumble, or the refs were calling a penalty on Texas. Georgia definitely didn’t deserve the win
Ditto. I was raised watching Bear Bryant. Spent most of my childhood in both Georgia and Alabama. When they play each other it’s a war inside my football heart. The new cfb playoff was designed to weaken the SEC programs.
I hated to see Beck get hurt, but TX hasn’t tasted the SEC in all of its glory. They will.
Who on earth is going to watch a championship game without the dawgs or bama.
