Well known that in San Francisco, with a 3/4 million population, only a half dozen or so concealed carry gun permits were allowed. Mayor and later on Senator Feinstein was one of the permit carriers. As you say, only the elites have a chance of carrying in California, certainly not in SF. While DA in SF, Kamala Harris protected criminal murderers with illegally held guns while rejecting families cries for justice after family members were murdered.
A gaffe is when a politician accidentally tells the truth.
Compared to hating Trump and political power, all other issues shrink to insignificance.
