IMO, man will never set foot on mars. Not because we’ll never be able to, but because it will never be worth the money or risk. AI and robots will do all space exploration, assuming we survive another couple of hundred years, which I doubt.

Musk wants to put a million people on Mars. I'm pretty sure there will be someone going to Mars and returning. Musk is talking about sending ships there in 2 years, and perhaps a manned mission in 4.

I think that's overly optimistic, but maybe in 12 years or so we might see a manned mission.

I will accept that there is one reason why a small number of people may get past the moon. And that reason is publicity. Or, better said, publicity stunt.

There is simply no reason to go there. At least, no reason for human beings to go there. Our robot and computer technology we have today precludes the need for human beings to be there. Imagine where that technology will be an a century. I can’t imagine people going tomorrow’s etc unless they’re just the super rich that want to do it in our willing to spend ungodly amounts of money to do it. That could happen but only a few cases. It’s certainly wouldn’t be in the name of science or space exploration. It’d be in the name of going on vacation. And having bragging rights that you did something none of your other rich peers did.
