We have security cameras, and can see strangers on our security monitor. If they're scruffy and dangerous looking, I've got access to a firearm if needed. My feeling is, if you have something important to report, then leave a note on the door. No note, not important.

I couldn't live like that. Yeah, I have security cameras and guns, but I also live in a county that if any bad guys exist, they know they are easy targets and the DA won't cut them any slack. Heck, I can still leave my vehicle unlocked at the local Walmart and leave the windows down. It'll all still be there when I come out.

That's great that you live in an area like that, I envy you. I consider my neighborhood safe and have good neighbors. But strangers from elsewhere are problems. Some cars get stolen overnight in the area. And cars broken into at local malls a mile or two away. Neighbors on my block look out for each other and would report suspicious behavior.

When I was a kid growing up in San Francisco, we didn't lock our front door (which was all glass), and we felt safe at all hours. But that was when it was a Republican city back in the 1950's. Things got worse when Democrats flooded in and took over in late 1960's, and my family moved out in early 1970's to the suburbs. I currently live in a suburb 20 miles out from the city, and would not consider going back to the city where crime is rampant.
