Keir Starmer has confirmed he is looking at banning smoking from some outdoor spaces such as pub gardens.
Smoking could be banned from specified outdoor areas including outside nightclubs and restaurant terraces in a clampdown on tobacco use across the country. Ministers are said to be considering a number of policies as Mr Starmer accelerates plans to make Britain smoke-free.
The Prime Minister confirmed to journalists in Paris that he is looking at changes to smoking laws after leaked documents suggested smoking would be banned in outside sports stadiums, in children's parks, in pub gardens, outside nightclubs, on restaurant terraces, on pavements by universities and hospitals and in Shisha bars.
Asked about the reports, Mr Starmer said: "My starting point on this is to remind everybody that over 80,000 people lose their lives every year because of smoking. That is a preventable death, it's a huge burden on the NHS and, of course, it is a burden on the taxpayer.
"So, yes, we are going to take decisions in this space, more details will be revealed, but this is a preventable series of deaths and we've got to take action to reduce the burden on the NHS and the taxpayer."
The crackdown would be included in the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which was set out in the King's Speech when Labour was elected to Government. The legislation will extend UK-wide, although the measures may be applied in different ways across the UK.

I make this point all the time. An early death is probably a net cost saver. People will eventually die of something.
I agree with your line of thinking. The person attacking you is way too literal.
He should ban drink. Muslims woukd support....publicly.
That’s a very interesting family history. I’ve lived in the USA longer than I did growing up in England. It’s such a strong culture, the USA is so much a country that is birthed from Britain. I’m proud to have been born and raised there and now being a citizen of the USA.
It’s shocking to me what is happening. I used to wonder how on earth somebody like Hitler and the Nazi’s could possibly rise to power. Now you see it in real time.
BTW - I *love* Katie, watch her regularly.
I’ve also been following the story of Tommy Robinson for more than 15 years.

Sadly, speaking online in the UK is labeled "inciting violence," but muslims stabbing and killing multiple people, including children isn't considered "inciting violence," nor will the police ever define what the motives of these people who commit these heinous acts, despite the fact that the cops actually know what their motives are. What a bizarro world we live in.
Tommy has been shat on for so many years, but the guy keeps getting back up and fighting on. The man is a hero in my book. Ireland and Scotland fought for many, many years to gain their independence from England, only to turn around, and become the same as the country they tried so hard to get away from.
I think some people are fair-weather friends when it comes to freedom. They can talk it, but they sometimes have difficulty with it when the rubber hits the road.
If we were to live in the America, as intended by the Founding Fathers, you would be free to smoke as long as you are willing to bear the costs of the illnesses that come with smoking. It was your responsibility to make good decisions If you weren’t willing to do that, nobody is supposed to come to your rescue if your decisions turn out badly for you.
