Trump says he would tap Elon Musk for cabinet or advisory position if elected in November

Former President Donald Trump on Monday admitted that he would tap Tesla and X owner Elon Musk for a cabinet or advisory position if he returns to the White House next year.

Musk led a conversation with the Republican presidential nominee on his social media platform last week, which included discussions about creating a "government efficiency commission," that would look at ways to reduce government spending.

The former president on Monday did not indicate what cabinet or advisory position he would offer Musk, but the comment occurred during a Reuters interview where he discussed ending a tax credit on purchasing electric vehicles.

"Tax credits and tax incentives are not generally a very good thing," Trump told the outlet after a Pennsylvania rally. "I'm not making any final decisions on it, I'm a big fan of electric cars. But I'm a fan of gasoline-propelled cars, and also hybrids and whatever else happens to come along."

Trump said that, if elected, he would rescind Biden administration rules that encourage automakers to produce more electric vehicles and hybrids in order to meet stricter emissions standards.

Musk endorsed Trump for president immediately after the former president was shot during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last month. The bullet pierced Trump's ear, but he was not otherwise injured.

I’m pretty sure Musk said he would do it. Fire everybody.

The details would matter, of course, but I don’t think Musk would refuse to serve in a capacity that made sense to him.

Men like Musk can handle multiple jobs. And certainly an advisory/front man position would not hamper him much very much.

I’d trust those of Musk’s staffers that he’d delegate any work.

Trump’s picks of 2016 were troublesome to say the least...

Put him in charge of NASA.

While there is no doubt that Musk would Make NASA Great Again, the way he would have to do it would be a massive conflict of interest. Too bad really, because Musk would flush the DEI from NASA and get them back to serious goals.

There are serious conflicts of interest here. SpaceX and Starlink have major DOD contracts (some “black”). Tesla still receives “green” subsidies, directly or indirectly. Tesla has major investments in China. Etc.

Any very wealthy man will inevitably have some such conflicts, but Musk, because of his specific businesses, is much more entangled in US government policy.

This is way more than what the Dems were complaining about re Trump, which amounted to a hill of beans. I don’t think Musk will fly as a cabinet appointee.

OK on an advisory role, no way on a cabinet position.

Why is he doing an interview with Reuters?

Because he's not like Joe or Kamalass, hiding in their basements.

You know that the plate spinning was just a silly trick, right?

And Musk has said that he would serve if asked. I just think he’s got more important things to do - there are a lot of people who can cut government waste. The number of people who can get the results Musk gets from SpaceX can probably be counted on one hand.

...........lol, so WHICH WAY should I interpret your comment to me? Yes he did or No he did not (i.e. do a good job at Twitter).

I’ll go first. Compared to the CREW running it before he bought it, he has done and is doing an outstanding job. Too bad he want get to do the same thing with over 1,000 federal agencies.

I appreciate your comment.

No, I didn’t know that. It is true? Those plates were apparently spinning round and round, unaided.
How was that faked?

Maybe silly trick, but conservation of angular momentum is real and spinning plates are a real world example of it...

I’ve seen the spinning plates several times. Do not think it could be faked.
