Trump shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks’ father speaks out for first time after son tried to assassinate former president

The father of would-be Donald Trump assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks has revealed the family is just trying to “take care of ourselves” — as he stepped out in public for the first time since the shooting.

Matthew Brian Crooks, 53, made the remarks as he was spotted leaving a grocery store on Monday, Fox News reported.

“We just want to try to take care of ourselves right now. Please, just give us our space,” Crooks said as he loaded bag-loads of items into his car.

“We’re going to release a statement when our legal counsel advises us to do so – until then, we have no comment.”

It marks the first time the dad has spoken out since his 20-year-old son opened fire with an AR-15 rifle during Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pa. on July 13.

The would-be assassin was shot dead by a Secret Service counter sniper just moments after he managed to clip the former president in the ear with one of his bullets.

Crooks’ father, a registered Libertarian, had legally purchased the rifle used in his son’s attack.

“give us our space” = same page as you

“when our legal counsel advises us to do so” = never

“take care of ourselves” = horse hockey. They called to report their 20 year old son missing immediately. Seems something was up with him mentally that they should have taken care of. Can’t remember the guy’s name who did a mass shooting who’s parents ended up in prison so could these parents face the same charges? The obviously knew to be so worried about his whereabouts and how did they know to check to make sure the rifle was still at the house? Knew they had big time legal counsel immediately which begs the question if the government is providing it.

Some of these twerps wouldn’t be satisfied even if the murderer’s parents performed seppuku on the county courthouse steps.

The parents need to shut up. It’s the only sane, smart thing to do.

Anything you say can and will be used AGAINST you ... never for you.

I think he’s smart not talking, and he should not talk to the FBI either. The way the DOJ is practicing lawfare he needs to keep his mouth shut to stop being convicted of lying to the FBI. He should take the 5th. Or have a written agreement that nothing they say can be used against them.

I understand the Dad wanting to consult police, then make a formal statement for the family, but how much ‘consultation’ is needed just to express sympathy for Donald Trump and the other people who were shot by his son?

Considering we have folks right here calling on him to be charged and imprisoned without ever having talked to him or knowing what the situation at home was, I'd say he's right to consult council and also exercise the 5th amendment right afforded to him.

It is a fundamental tenant of EVERY code of laws that parents are not held responsible for the crimes of their children AND children are not punished for the the crimes of their ancestors.

“His kid should have given the shooting victims some space. This dad is worried about liability.”

"Dad, can I borrow the AR? I'm gonna go shoot Trump."

Yeah, don't think it went down like that.

What if he stole the parents’ car and ran people down? Stole a steak knife and stabbed people to death? The “kid” was 20. Maybe a lawsuit, but unless something really damning turns up, I don’t see how anyone can hold the parents criminally liable otherwise.

Sure, because every parent reports their 20 year old grown son as missing when on any other Saturday they would assume he was at work. But not these parents. Why?

>> Aren’t firearms supposed to be locked and secure?

No, Karen, firearms are supposed to “locked and loaded” and kept close by in case they’re needed.

Exceptions might be made if there are children around who are untrained in firearm handling.

Matthew Crook was twenty years old.

Just speculating here, but perhaps they noticed their AR was gone along with him?

According to fox5atlanta, Crooks’ parents told local police that Crooks was missing and that they were concerned about his welfare, hours before he opened fire on Trump. It remained unclear if the father told cops that his son was in possession of his AR-15 rifle. According to the outlet, Police have not said what actions they took after being contacted.

Yes, but where do they work? In schools, CPS, private practice?

“I bet parents knew a lot more prior to his son trying to kill Trump.”

*************

Didn’t he contact law enforcement THAT DAY to express concern about his son’s whereabouts?

I’ve read several articles that claim both parents are Social Workers and their son had a history of making threats of attacks on schools. Despite this the father let him borrow the rifle.

He’s a Libertarian.

I’ve noticed most of those who call themselves “libertarian” tend to repeat marxist dogma.

There was one in particular who had been going on and on about the utopian society he and his fellows would create. When someone challenged him to explain how they would fund it he replied “from each according to his ability and to each according to his need.” He got angry because I kept tagging his comments with laugh emojis and responding with laughter gifs.

He told me he would block me if I didn’t stop laughing at him. Collectivist Stooges have no sense of humor.

"Both Matthew and Mary Crooks are licensed as professional counselors"

Their vicious, little spawn never had a chance to be normal.

Again, we know *nothing* about what was going on with this would-be assassin leading up to his heinous crimes and subsequent death.

Instead of blaming his parents (about whom we know next to nothing) why aren’t we concerned with the *real* question?

The real question: The FBI is in charge of the investigation. They have yet to hold a press conference and have yet to testify before Congress. Why have they not answered to We The People yet? It’s been ten dqys! Why has Congress not issued a subpoena?

We should be writing and calling our Congress Critters demanding this, not wasting our time blaming the parents.

Let’s Just Do It, Freepers! Get on the phone, send those emails — let them know we want answers! Now! Not 60 days from now.
