Biden staffers reportedly blindsided after president drops out of 2024 race: ‘We’re all finding out by tweet’

President Biden’s announcement that he was dropping out of the 2024 race stunned a number of White House staffers who believed he would stay the course.

Many reportedly learned of the historic news from social media.

“We’re all finding out by tweet,” one Democrat close to the matter told Politico. “None of us understand what’s happening.”

Biden campaign workers in Delaware, where Biden has been holing up since Wednesday when he was diagnosed with COVID-19, were still operating business as usual right up until the announcement, placing calls to delegates ahead of the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Good point.

They are all lame duck now.

My wife is retiring next month—and she is very diligent and responsible at work.

I told her that she needed to memorize a new mantra:

“Not my problem.”

How absolutely lovely that the loyal troops are being thrown under the bus for their loyalty. I assume that the new leaders of the Democratic Party want nothing to do with those that helped perpetrate this mess on the DNC.

“I’d bet the donors dried up. You can fight all you want but you need donors.”

Yes, you got it. A team of the biggest said “We’re out if you stay in” and that was that. I wish he had challenged them but Jill was probably offered very nice compensation for an agreeable conclusion.

The Best and the Brightest by David Halberstam was the book about the JFK cabinet and White House staff. They didn’t turn out to be that way.

LBJ kept some on and they pushed the Vietnam War. Others were gone.

LBJ even kept Robert F. Kennedy on for some time until RFK wanted to leave to run against him.

Who says he dropped out? Maybe the message was put out without his knowledge. He isn’t capable of a coherent thought much less a coherent sentence. I don’t believe he had anything to do with it. The communists who run the government have had enough of his dilly dallying and decided to remove him from the campaign before the weekend was over.

Nixon quotes:

In all the decisions I have made in my public life, I have always tried to do what was best for the Nation. Throughout the long and difficult period of Watergate, I have felt it was my duty to persevere, to make every possible effort to complete the term of office to which you elected me.

In the past few days, however, it has become evident to me that I no longer have a strong enough political base in the Congress to justify continuing that effort. As long as there was such a base, I felt strongly that it was necessary to see the constitutional process through to its conclusion, that to do otherwise would be unfaithful to the spirit of that deliberately difficult process and a dangerously destabilizing precedent for the future.

But with the disappearance of that base, I now believe that the constitutional purpose has been served, and there is no longer a need for the process to be prolonged.

I would have preferred to carry through to the finish whatever the personal agony it would have involved, and my family unanimously urged me to do so. But the interest of the Nation must always come before any personal considerations.

To leave office before my term is completed is abhorrent to every instinct in my body. But as President, I must put the interest of America first.

America needs a full-time President and a full-time Congress, particularly at this time with problems we face at home and abroad.

To continue to fight through the months ahead for my personal vindication would almost totally absorb the time and attention of both the President and the Congress in a period when our entire focus should be on the great issues of peace abroad and prosperity without inflation at home.

Therefore, I shall resign the Presidency effective at noon tomorrow. Vice President Ford will be sworn in as President at that hour in this office.

LBJ even kept Robert F. Kennedy on for some time until RFK wanted to leave to run against him.

RFK left to run for the Senate from New York.

The way the specialized political society works is your status is determined by your proximity to power. The way you demonstrate your status is to reveal secrets that nobody else knows. So, if you want to keep something secret until you want it released you shouldn’t even whisper it to your dog.

I think Obama, Nancy etc wrote the letter & released it and told Biden that he was out one way or another. I don’t think he ever agreed to this.

Biden campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond just this morning to @margbrennan

“I want to be crystal clear. He’s made a decision and that decision is to accept the nomination and run for reelection, win reelection.”
