Nippon Steel hires Mike Pompeo to advise on U.S. Steel deal
Reuters ^ | July 20, 2024

Japan's biggest steelmaker, Nippon Steel Corp... has hired former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to help with its effort to acquire U.S. Steel ...

"We look forward to working alongside him to further emphasize the ways in which Nippon Steel's acquisition of U.S. Steel bolsters the country's economic and national security," Nippon Steel said

...

Pompeo had not been given a specific job title within the company.

...

Although both steelmakers have received all regulatory approvals outside of the United States for their proposed $14.9 billion merger, they face political opposition and regulatory scrutiny from within the United States.

Nippon Steel also faces objections from the powerful United Steelworkers (USW) union, which fears the deal could lead to job losses.

...

Both Trump and Joe Biden have said they would block the deal.

Nippon Steel's key negotiator on the deal, Vice Chairman Takahiro Mori, visited the United States this month, including U.S. Steel facilities, and met stakeholders and employees, the company said earlier this week.

I agree. I was uneasy about Pompeo being included.

“We would be producing our own steel — with foreign investment in our country.”

Why does the premier country in the world need foreign investment to produce its own steel?

Who would be controlling the pricing?

“That’s a good thing.”

Why is it a good thing?

“I can’t imagine we’ll keep making steel in this country for long without that foreign investment.”

Why? Does Japan need foreign investment to make its own steel? Does China or India need foreign investment to make its own steel? Why does the United States, with the largest economy in the world, need foreign investment to make its own steel? Instead of selling off a critical manufacturing concern, would it not be better to see how the other countries are doing it?

“I don’t know enough about the details of this deal to know whether Nippon is the best buyer...”

So you are okay with selling off American industry to the highest bidder?

“...but this mindless opposition to foreign companies is such a self-own.”

You can’t reason. I said not a word about foreign companies in the United States.

But steel production is a matter of national security and continuation as an industrial nation.

Why does the premier country in the world need foreign investment to produce its own steel?

Maybe because all the US steel companies went broke or moved overseas.

Just say you support nationalization and be done with it. There’s no real need for you to pad your post with cute looking distraction words.

Well, with his extensive background in the steel industry, it’s a no brainer to put him on the board of your steel company. /s

Just another DC whore for sale to the highest bidder.

I was disappointed to see Pompeo speaking at the convention. I felt he belonged on the sidelines with the Bushes, Cheneys, and Pence. It was another sign that at least one part of the Deep State has made up with Trump and will be backing him, this time. And unfortunately, he needs that faction to win.

Tucker Carlson reveals the truth about Mike Pompeo.

‘Pompeo threatened to arrest me if I revealed the CIA killed President Kennedy. Pompeo also plotted to assassinate Julian Assange.’

President Trump needs to keep that Deep State cuck as far away as possible. He's a Deep State mole and operative. If Tucker warns us, you best take that warning to the bank.

Fine. Foreign vulture capitalists should just be allowed to buy American companies, strip the assets, and move production out of the country instead. Anything else is communist and gay.

Why does the premier country in the world need foreign investment to produce its own steel?

Because we are no longer “the premier country in the world.”
