Local cop who interrupted Thomas Crooks but failed to stop him is a hero who saved Trump’s life, sheriff says

The local cop who interrupted Thomas Crooks’ assassination attempt on Donald Trump — but failed to stop the deranged gunman from squeezing the trigger — saved the ex-president’s life, a Pennsylvania sheriff insisted Tuesday.

Butler County Sheriff Michael Slupe doubled down on his defense of the Butler Township police officer who confronted Crooks at the Saturday rally and assailed online critics as “a–holes” in an interview with The Post.

Slupe argued that the officer — whose department was enlisted by the Secret Service to help during the rally — merely coming face to face with the shooter delayed what could have been a worse outcome for Trump.

All the people yelling should have stormed the roof?

Thrown their phones and soft drinks up at Crooks?

As Americans, all those MAGA Trump fans were failures?

I keep asking if the local patrol officers were even armed. It would be hard to properly vet them all. Some LE are putting up “Too bad he missed” posts. Not to mention the possibility of an assassin grabbing a cop’s gun. That’s why prison guards don’t carry.

Look at the chick with the gun. Zero contribution to Trump's safety but a cropped version of that photo probably on her Instagram page with a few hundred likes.

Tell you the truth...I don’t believe the perp turned and pointed his rifle at the cop...I don’t believe the perp even knew he was there...The ladder was between 2 buildings....the shooter was just below the peak...it just doesn’t fit...

“Why didn’t the cop just use the perps ladder to climb up?”

He didn’t see it?

The local cops were literally inside the building from which the shooter fired. It was their responsibility to secure that building, so at least some local cop screwed up massively.

Secret Service screwed by by not catching the local cops' screw-up.

These were local police of a town that had a population 13,502 in 2020. The SS should have known these locals are not trained in this kind of security. Their biggest crimes are probably domestic or drugs. I blame this all on that woman SS DEI hire.

[I just don’t understand. Several reports of a ladder in the bushes against the building why not use that.

Ladder seen leading to the sniper’s nest at the site of the attempted Trump assassination.

This is a bit like “I saw a photo of a handful of armed cops on the roof - why didn’t they just shoot him”. A photo establishes place, but not time.

The ladder was probably placed against the building after the kid was killed. So the crime scene people wouldn’t all have to get boosted one by one to get to the roof. The original cop who poked his head over the roofline, while holding on to the edge with both hands and had the kid point the rifle at him, lost his grip, fell eight feet to the ground, maybe got a concussion. No point dealing with that risk, now that the kid had expired.

This sheriff is a real clown. What about the fireman who was murdered. Why didn’t the cop who ran save his life too? What about the two people in the hospital? This guy is a jerk. He needs to go get a job down in Uvalde. The Home of the “Heroes”.

The ladder is/was a permanent access ladder to the roof. Are you telling me that no one that was IN that building walked the perimeter?

Yes, merely looking at the guy and then not doing anything may have interrupted him but it has no heroism attached to it.

This is similar to those articles about the “hero” kid who saw the house across the street on fire and called 911.

Yes, you expect the cops to be inept that’s why the secret service handles the protection. No excuse for not getting Trump off the stage. No excuse for not kaking that kid on sight. No excuse.

Still the Hand of God. Anybody who saw what happened also saw divine intervention in action.

Everything was transformed in that instant.
