That’s a good question. I think his tax was levied at closing. Which makes me wonder what if you sell and plan to buy again in-state, but haven’t found that house yet?
I was in the Spokane airport this past Saturday. The guy next to me waiting in the bar for his flight had a Make Texas Great Again red hat on. He said the amount of former Californians in his state was ruining Texas.
I had spent the previous week in Boise and Coeur d’Alene, ID.
The ex Californians are ruining Idaho too.

Coeur d’Alene was still pretty nice. It has just gotten so expensive on real estate in the last five or so years. The downtown area is now full of condo buildings.
CdA is still God’s country though. Especially if you get about 20 miles north of there. However, from Spokane to CdA it is all built up now.
Most of the people that move to north Idaho are red blooded Americans. Not like the liberals that move to Boise. Also, most of the immigrants from south of the border do not like northern Idaho. It gets too cold for them in the winter.
In order for this move to be a benefit to Texas, Musk gives the pink slip to all the liberal employees. They’re the ones that voted for California government that pushed for This bill.
I’ll bet that there are plenty of Conservative tech folks, engineers and physicists, in Texas that would love opportunity to work for him.
Otherwise is just liberals getting closer to turning Texas Purple
