A near-total abortion ban was defeated in South Carolina with the help of the only three Republican women in the Senate, but after Tuesday’s primary, they’re losing their election bids.
Voters handed the senators – and winners of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage award for people who risk their careers for the greater good – two losses and a runoff after they joined with Democratic women to defeat the measure, saying a pregnant woman shouldn’t lose control of her body as soon as an egg is fertilized.

maybe she did not want to actually carry me the 9 months to give me away.
You don’t exactly offer a 6 week pregnancy up for adoption.
“for the greater good”?
I guess babies aren’t included in that kind of greater good.
One Semi-Republican who won the ‘Profile in Courage’ award, was Lowell P. Weicker, who got the award when he screwed the taxpayers of Connecticut with an income tax, then never gave us the promised lower sales tax ..
I think he was saying the opposite. His mother chose life and he and sibs were born an loved.
I know a some people whose parents told them told them similar stories.
It always seemed like an unnecessary pain to inflict on a child.
Honesty does not require everything to be told to a child.
You were there, and I was not, so I defer to your judgement.
Curious, obviously you have no obligation to answer.
Did you talk to your father about it?
I’m sorry I said he when your FR handle is obviously she.
I’m shocked at the way your post was twisted by some on this thread.
Your mom acted out of love and did what she believed as right, following her path towards the light despite some hurdles. I would interpret her sharing her doubts with you as part of helping you understand about difficult choices and staying true to yourself. Also about the joys that can come from what appears to be misfortune. To think that her brave and resolute choice should have been hidden like a shameful secret is appalling.
no. that would have been awkward!
Did she introduce y’all as “ here are my children, none of whom I wanted” ?
That you actually became aware of that fact is a bit scary. Did she tell you over a cup of coffee?
That is just so DISGUSTING. I feel so bad for your mother.
My dad was icky, too, and controlled and emotionally abused Mom for 60+ years. What is WRONG with people? ugh
Abortion is not about when life begins...it’s about when murder begins. ©
This writeup is a good sample of how grotesquely AP editorializes its new coverage. If your local newspaper is an AP client, let them know what you think of such tripe.
no, she was a bit more subtle but yeah she told me.
Plus the fact that after I was born she slept on the couch for the rest of her life. I guess that was the only way she could make sure she did not have any more kids.
I don’t know why, but it certainly was tolerated.
May I ask how many siblings you have?
You do not have to answer, but how old was your mother when you were born?
Weiker the hiker. I remember there was an effort on to replace him with Joe Lieberman because the democrat Lieberman was more conservative
6 and I was the last and she was 40. He was 50.
she started at 18.
I always thought we got the definitions wrong. It shouldn’t be called Birth Control; it should be called Pregnancy Control. Abstinence, Condoms, Tubal Ligation and Vasectomies fall into this bucket. Birth Control would be abortion.
I’m sorry about those memories. I pray she came to her senses and realized you were a precious gift from God.
thanks.
