ByteDance, the China-based owner of TikTok, said it doesn't have plans to sell the social media service in the wake of a new law that requires it either to divest ownership of the popular app within 12 months, or face a U.S. ban.
On Thursday, ByteDance posted a message on Toutiao, a Chinese social media service which it owns, refuting reports that the company is considering selling TikTok. Such reports are "untrue," it wrote.
It added, "ByteDance does not have any plans to sell TikTok."
The message comes two-days after President Joe Biden signed the TikTok divest-or-ban measure into law and a day afterTikTok on Thursday vowed to fight the new law in the courts. TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew said in a video posted to the service that "the facts and the Constitution are on our side." He added that TikTok expects "to prevail again," referring to Montana's failed effort to ban the app, which was blocked in November by a federal judge.

I think it was Kruschev who said something about how capitalists will gladly sell you the rope to hang them with.
One more thing that will cost him the yoot vote
Interesting that Tik-Tok wasn’t a problem when it encouraged White teens to cross genders, make stupid dance videos.
Well, if this administration can ignore laws, why not everybody else?
This is just the first round of negotiation. They want to jack the price up before they sell.
To avoid litigation the federal government will subsidize the sale. Just another underhanded way for the fed/gov to send our national treasure to China. I’m sure all the right people are in line to receive kickbacks.
They're not going to sell. Why would they? Silicon Valley Tech Oligarchs all want TikTok's algorithm.
No one respects Biden or his low IQ clown show associates. Especially China, which has bought and paid for the slimeball and is ready to expose the little turd and all his flies should he not toe the line. Of course, nothing will come of the Tic-Tic “law”. Such is our present leadership.

Exactly right in every detail. But it has to be done. TikTrok was designed and is being used as a tool to attack America.
Biden just lost a fair amount of the youth vote . Probably should have waited till after the election like his ban on menthol smokes
How so?
They'll all vote for RFK Jr. But maybe it won't matter anyway because the elections rigged.
For one thing, a whistleblower has reported that he was required to send vast files of users’ personal information to China. But the obvious thing is manipulation of political news. I recently read that something like 20% of millenials get their news from TikTok! Bad enough that we’ve had Zuckerberg doing it. Bad enough that we had Twitter doing it until Musk stepped in. TikTok is managed by an enemy government.
Meta and Twitter (before Elon Musk) were known for doing that. You need to provide specific evidence of this by TikTok.
Irony squared.
Are you defending TikTok?
I am defending the first amendment. We have free speech in this country.
If it came to that, it'll work at first. For a year or two. Then the Feds will go after the VPNs.
I am. It’s a great app. Completely superior to Instagram, Facebook or anything else. Including X. It’s completely filled with conservative commentary and videos. My TikTok feed is full of nothing but cool travel ideas, good barbecue ideas, interesting approaches to home projects, a lot of history, a lot of 10 minute clips of very good sermons from preachers I follow. Spending 20 or 30 minutes scrolling through Facebook, or Instagram, or Twitter ex leaves you feeling unhappy, unsatisfied, and anxious. A session on TikTok often leaves you with some thought-provoking nugget that you ponder the rest of the day. I think TikTok is awesome.
The problem with it is there is a mostly foreign owned company, it’s hard for the worms in DC to shake them down for bribes. And it’s hard for the CIA and FBI to go meet with them in their office and demand content be taken down. They sure as hell don’t provide the FBI a desk in their corporate HQ. They have utterly blown away Instagram in numbers of users, and speed of adoption. So Zuckerberg called the congressman he has bribed, and demanded they do something to protect them from a tough competitor.
The idea that DC is making efforts to protect the data of American users is laughable on the face of it. All they care about is all that data is gleaned by so-called American companies like Facebook, Google, Apple, Amazon, etc. That way the FBI can data mine it easily
Yoots and the skirts, can you still describe ladies as skirts? Screw PC, I am old.
