California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt announced Friday that all classes and school business will be conducted remotely for the rest of the semester amid a student occupation on campus protesting the ongoing war in Gaza.
University officials extended the closure of the campus until May 10 — the end of the semester — saying instruction would continue to be remote, after protesters at the university in northern California used furniture, tents, chains and zip ties to block entrances to an academic and administrative building on Monday.
Commencement at the school is currently scheduled for May 11.
Officials said in a statement Tuesday that students had occupied a second building and three students had been arrested. On Wednesday, officials said some unidentified people who were not students were also inside one of the occupied buildings. On Thursday, the university said protesters continued to occupy the two buildings.
A dean at the school, Jeff Crane, suggested during the meeting that the university form a committee that would include students to do a deep dive into the school's investments. Crane also suggested faculty and students continue meeting every 24 hours to keep an open line of communication. The sides have yet to announce an agreement.

Polytechnic is woke now??? feh...
you’d think they’d be smarter than that, and you’d be wrong
Demonstrating is more important than education. Considering the state of the education industry this take is hard to argue against. Put the homeless in the classrooms since there is no education going on.
Just wait until they start using Arafat suicide vests. They’ll get all kinds of cool stuff from the administrators.
The cowardice of California educators is beyond compare.
Humboldt State closes their campus before the end of the semester for fear that professors might ask the students on a final exam, to locate Palestine or Israel on a map. They don’t want an empty graduation stadium.
So overpaid faculty and administrators will get full pay?
And hardworking non protest students will miss graduation ceremony they worked toward?
Mob rule. And rewarding any mobs brings worsening actions.
Ha.
When he looks in the mirror he sees Napoleon, not Ronald Reagan.
After he spends twenty minutes admiring his hair and how cute his face is.
Look to Florida for solutions.
They just released the model for balancing free speech and common sense.
And it wasn’t difficult.
The convention in Chicago is gonna be lit.
They don't make enough popcorn for what we'll need.
I know a couple folks who sent their kids to Humboldt State. Their kids couldn’t get into the second tier colleges like SDSU, UCSB, UCI, UCSF, etc. Humboldt was pretty much a guaranteed acceptance. For most college bound students, Humboldt State wasn’t even a back-up. Not sure how much the move to being a Cal-Poly has changed that.
Yep! This year’s flavor is GLM (Gaza lives matter). Rinse repeat.
🥱
Occidental College, where I was working toward an AB degree in history, was one of those that closed. However, the radicals who forced the closure were furious that most of the students treated it as a long weekend and headed for the beach.
Rather than defend the Jews against persecution, the colleges are shutting down classes, nice. Cowardly move.
That’s only going to embolden the terrorist supporters even more.
So we can expect more of the same.
Humboldt State is in the middle of a redwood forest in remote norther California.
It’s amazing all the places these maggots have infested
Cal Poly Humboldt is in Arcata California which is just across the coastal bay from Eureka. It's on the corridor of San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle that these Leftists migrate along depending on weather.
Oh, I know exactly where it is - my daughter went to school there.
I guess it doesn’t matter where a “school” is, they all attract the same “activists”.
How come there are so few right wing activists, and armies of leftist radical activists?
Since it’s a “polytechnic”, I assume there are a lot of lab courses. Students in those classes need to sue for tuition rebates and for lost time.
Lawfare is fair for both sides.
