France and Moldova to sign defence pact amid fears of Russian destabilisation

Moldova and France will sign a defence cooperation accord on Thursday as part of the West's efforts to strengthen the former Soviet state's capabilities amid what they fear are increasing efforts by Russia to destabilise Moldova.

Moldova, a western neighbour of Ukraine, has a tiny defence budget and has long had tense relations with Moscow, which have worsened as Chisinau backs Ukraine in the war against Russia.

Russia has troops and peacekeepers based in Transdniestria, a breakaway statelet of Moldova that has maintained its autonomy for three decades with the Kremlin's support.

The French presidency said in a statement on Wednesday that defence and economic cooperation accords would be signed when President Emmanuel Macron meets his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu in Paris.

An American is one whose nation was formed by resisting a monarch by a violent revolution which is still celebrated here. An American conservative is one who would "conserve" the results of that revolution, which is beautifully said in our Declaration of Independence (an excerpt):

"That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. You, the monarchist who brags about his "support [ of ] the restoration of the Spanish empire under the Bourbon monarchy," are not an American conservative whose legacy includes "it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government...."

While you might play with words, you fumble with defending your own monarchist view.

"In the United States, conservatism is based on a belief in limited government, individualism, traditionalism, republicanism, and limited federal governmental power in relation to U.S. states.[1] Conservative and Christian media organizations, along with American conservative figures, are influential, and American conservatism is one of the majority political ideologies within the Republican Party."

Conservatism in the United States

You blather on about "conservatism" by which you mean supporting the restoration of a monarchy, a type of conservative view which precious few in these United States hold today. Which is why you toy with definitions from Spain.

Lovely that you would paint actual American citizens on a conservative Free Republic as "You lot are all liberal radicals."

Keep talking, for you reveal your views quite nicely if foolishly.

This American, ex-Army "liberal radical" conservative -- in your parlance -- would honor our true historial revolutionaries' memory by throwing off your "conservative" monarchy of which you dream.

He's a prime example why I stopped calling myself a conservative some time back. There are too many people like him claiming to be conservative. With a wide divergence on war, abortion, climate and now spending, it's a mind-numbing argument I have no interest in. He can have the label. I'm a Trump voting, independent American citizen not aligned to either Party, religion or group. It works for me.

As I said, you lot are revolutionary liberal radicals. This, in a global, universal context, is indisputable.

Very few of you, therefore, understand yourselves, especially today. A lot of American political arguments are therefore incoherent. Now, I am used to you, and familiar with your dusputational context (keeping up with this is an old, bad habit). So I can deal, but Americans themselves often cant. And foreigners are usually lost at the outset.

Ideology is, as it should be obvious, a matter of ideas, which are independent of nations or, indeed, majorities. In terms of political ideas I sit at the core, with my pals De Maistre, Confucius and Aristotle.

Confucius was a supporter of the monarchic system as it was in China. Aristotle was leery of republics and democracy. De Maistre was in favor if traditional European monarchies.

My desiderata are adjusted to the existing and the possible. We cannot restore the dynasty of Macedon or of the house of Lu, so we are left with the existing House of Bourbon, which moreover has a reigning monarch. I think the three old fellows could have agreed with the practical considerations of this choice.

Oh look, it's raining monarchs. Louis Alphonse de Bourbon isn't on the throne in Spain, or anywhere else for that matter.

Felipe VI is my king, a Borbon (Bourbon).
The Bourbons have held the throne of Spain (with interludes) since 1713. Since they became the only reigning Bourbons after the fall of the French and Neapolitan branches, they are, arguably, the senior branch.

Thanks for your testimony as to your monarch. You're probably the only monarchist here on Free Republic whose allegiance is so clearly stated.

I would be, along with probably EVERY OTHER Freeper, on the opposite side in a contest for who should "rule" these United States. The American Revolution and War for Independence put us squarely in opposing camps. Your "Felipe VI" is just some guy named Felipe, for most of the world.

It is sure that the EU Commission's "rulers" would never pledge fealty to this "king" nor would these United States, nor would any of the other limp aristocracy still existent in Europe. Seems like your "things wished" ain't coming true.
