In the nuclear age it’s hard to doubt the ‘fire next time’, but as you note it is not Biblical, as far as I know.
While the Creator, Who made all things out of nothing, and out of love for us, is free to work all things as He pleases, it is not a stretch to think it would all start with a “natural” sudden increase in the greater light.
