Is a posthumous promotion significant to survivors of a fallen soldier? Is it a prestige honor thing or does it enhance any death benefits to family they might have left behind?

I don’t know if it’s S.O.P. but a local soldier, a former student of mine, who was killed in Iraq received a posthumous promotion to corporal.
