Nope. The "former progressive" itself is a conservative trope no longer applicable in the 21st century. It used to be the case in the 20th century or the early years of the 21st century, but progressives have become much more religious in their devotion to ideology, even at the risk of life or limb.

Now you are no more likely to "convert" a progressive through being a crime victim than you are to turn a Christian into a Satan worshipper through sudden loss of a loved one.

Wishful thinking. I've read too many accounts of lefties like this expressing sympathy for their assailants to entertain that prospect.
